IntensIve course overvIew

This four-day intensive course in geriatric medicine emphasizes a functionalassessment approach to comprehensive care of older adults and is directedtoward health care professionals who care for older persons, and toward faculty in teaching programs in geriatrics and gerontology. The 2012 course will be especially useful to internists and family physicians who are preparing foreither the Examination for the Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine or the Re-certification Examination.

•Applyprinciplesofgeriatricassessment,geriatricpharmacology, rehabilitation, and long-term care to the patient care setting

Geriatric Pharmacy - The California Geriatric Education Center will offerits Intensive Course in Geriatric Pharmacy and Board Review concurrentlywith the Geriatric Medicine course. Participants of the Geriatric Medicine course will have the opportunity to attend any of the geriatric pharmacysessions.

Lectures and Discussions - More than thirty case-based presentations are each followed by floor discussions. All lectures are summarized in a 600-page syllabus provided to each course participant.

Interactive Sessions - Held each day with smaller groups of participants interacting with faculty on practical issues in geriatrics, emphasis is on the “how to” of clinical procedures.

Board Review Sessions - Optional afternoon and evening board reviewsessions will be offered.

Welcome Reception - Early Wednesday evening, there will be a reception for course participants, their guests and faculty.
