Dear Friends of Variety,
Our November newsletter highlights many of the great events coming up to sup-port Variety! Whether it is donating on Giving Tuesday (Tuesday, Nov. 29th) or purchasing a ticket to see Little Shop of Horrors at the Penn’s Landing Playhouse (Dec. 8th – 18th) there are a multitude of ways for you to support our mission of building independence and self-confidence in children with disabilities.
In addition to some fundraising opportunities, we have some great opportunities coming up for our kids to be kids including our annual Children’s Holiday parties. You will also find an article highlighting Mary Fuller our PR, Marketing and Events Director who won an award for her years of dedicated service to the community. She is truly an asset to both Variety and the community at large.
If you have any questions, concerns or just want to chat about anything Variety, please feel free to contact me via email at [email protected] or phone (610) 584-4366 x 203. Thanks for all the support you have provided and continue to provide to our kids!
Sincerely,
Angus MurrayCEOVariety – the Children’s Charity of the Greater Philadelphia Region

Hard work is always rewarded, and our Special Events, Marketing, and PR Director Mary Fuller is the definition of hard-work. Last month, Mary was awarded the 2016
Community Service Award from the PennSuburban Chamber of Commerce for her extensive work in the community. In
addition to handling the PR & Marketing at Variety, she is a current member of the Lansdale Borough Council, founder and
president of Discover Lansdale, current board vice chairwoman of Manna on Main St., has
volunteered with the North Penn School Dis-trict and Trinity Lutheran Church, and worked
on a number of other committees throughout the Lansdale borough.
When asked why she devotes so much of her time and effort to serving the community, Mary replied, “simply to be involved, and I love doing what I do, and I love making a difference if I can”. Mary does not devote herself to the community for recognition; she does it only to benefit the community.
Her selfless commitment to helping others is the reason she is more than deserving of the
award. However, Mary
realizes she didn’t achieve all
these accomplishments without any help. When thanking her family and friends for their support, Mary had a special
thanks for former Lansdale
Borough Manager and close friend Timi Kirchner. “[She is] a lot of the wind beneath my wings, so to say. …If I felt I was getting
tired of or [wondering], ‘Why do I do some of this?’ she [Timi] would prop me up and said ‘You do it because you’re you, and it needs to be done.’” Her humility is just one of the
many traits that led to her receiving this award.
In addition to the service she provides to the Lansdale borough, Mary still finds time to do all the planning, marketing, and PR for all our Variety events. If you have been to a Variety
event in the last two years, it’s because of Mary. She spends countless hours working on every detail to give the children and families we serve the best experience
possible. In the words of our Angus Murray, our CEO, “Mary started with Variety over two years ago and in such a short amount of time
she has had a tremendous impact. Mary is the kind of employee you wish you had ten of. She puts her head down and gets the job done with a smile on her face. If she notices a coworker struggling with a task, she is the first to jump in and help, usually with a quick joke to relieve any tension. We are so proud and so glad to have Mary as a member of
our team”Variety is lucky to have someone so
dedicated and caring be a part of our team here at Variety. Someone who gives back to the community so frequently is the type of
person we want helping us in our mission to help children with disabilities gain
independence and self-confidence. Hard work is always rewarded, and in our case,
Variety is rewarded everyday by Mary Fuller.

Gift Wrapping
After a Day of Eating (Thanksgiving!), a Day of Shopping (Black Friday!), and a Day of Online Shopping (Cyber
Monday!), it’s time to consider a Day of Giving. In recent years, this has become known as Giving Tuesday.
Variety-the Children’s Charity, which serves any child with physical or developmental disabilities, humbly asks that when
you are considering a cause worthy of your donations, you consider the many children we strive to serve via our “variety” of programs: Day & Overnight Camp, Extended School Year, Saturday Arts, Vocational Program, After School, the list goes on. Firstrust has graciously agreed to match all Giving Tuesday gifts up to $10,000. Go to http://varietyphila.org/get-involved/donate/ to see how you can support Variety kids.

For the month of November, the Lansdale Police Department will be growing their facial hair in support of children with disabilities. This campaign ends on
November 30th with a department-wide facial hair competition to judge the win-ner. Food, drinks, raffle prizes, and more are available for purchase for those who
attend. Come out to Stove & Tap in Lansdale on November 30th to enjoy the evening and see if the 2-time reigning champ will be dethroned!
On Thursday, December 1st from 5-9pm at the Plymouth Country Club, CBIZ will be holding its ‘Tis the Season shopping event. Please join our friends from CBIZ for an evening of light fare, cocktails, and a variety of vendors selling unique gift items, to support Variety - the Children’s Charity and our efforts to build independence and self-confidence in children and youth with physical and developmental disabilities.
Get into the holiday spirit as the shops at One Liberty Place (Philadelphia) light up their fabulous tree in the rotunda on December 1st, from 5-8pm. They will have fun holiday games, food, and a champagne reception. There will also be gift-wrapping to benefit
Variety – the Children’s Charity and all are invited.
The Cedarbrook Country Club Women’s Association is inviting you to their annual charity lunch on Wednesday, December 7th. From 10am-2pm there will be food, live music, and a
raffle with all proceeds benefiting Variety - the Children’s Charity.
DonateThe help we offer children and
families is only possible because of the help we receive from donors. The generous contributions from individuals and corporations al-
lows us to continue the work we’ve been doing for over 50 years.
