COMBINED SPECIAL COLLECTION Every year each parish in the
diocese has special collections which are designated for specific
charities. If you have church envelopes you see the yellow or beige
envelopes in your boxes periodically for these. While we were
closed for COVID-19 we missed several of these collections,
including Share Lent, Pope’s Pastoral Works, Holy Land (Good
Friday), Care for Retired Priests, Needs of the Church in Canada
and World Mission Sunday. The Diocese recognizes that these
charities still need our help, particularly during these difficult
times. So we are having a one-time Combined Special Collection this
weekend, October 17/18 which will be divided among all these
charities. If you are not able to join us for Mass but want to
contribute to this collection you can use any envelope, mark it
Combined Special Collection, and drop it in the mail slot at the
Parish Office. Be sure to include your name and contact info or
envelope number so we can add this donation to your year-end tax
receipt. If you have already donated to these charities using the
individual envelopes in your boxes, rest assured we have passed
those donations on for you. If you have any questions please
contact Alice in the Parish Office. Thank you for your prayerful
support.
NEVER HAS SO MUCH BEEN OWED TO SO FEW
We want to extend a very special thank you to our Hospitality
Ministers and Church Cleaners. They are working very hard with
little relief; some have been scheduled every weekend since the
parish re-opened for Mass. Our Hospitality Ministers greet you at
the door, make sure you are safely seated and some are working with
our Church Cleaners to sanitize the church after Mass so that the
next mass or liturgy can be held in safety.
Thank you to all those who are involved in these ministries for
stepping up. We could not open or
remain open without your help. 2020 has been a year of
challenges, and it looks like 2021 will offer the same, at least at
the beginning. Let’s make an early New Year’s resolution to do
everything we can to keep our parish safe and open for all who can
join us for worship. Ruthann is working on the 2021 schedules now.
If you are able to help us keep the doors open give her a call or
send her an email and we’ll get you on the list. Thank you!
Pick up in the Parish Office
2020-2021 MISSALS The 2020-2021 Sunday Missals are available for
purchase through the parish office. They are $3.50 each, please
call the office to arrange a time to come in and pick one up.
ADVENT LITTLE BOOKS The Advent Little Books are available for
pickup for all those who ordered them. Please call the parish
office to arrange a time to pick yours up. The cost for the entire
set is $5.00 and is due when you pick up the Advent book.
2021 CHURCH ENVELOPES Your 2021 Church Envelope boxes are also
ready for pickup in the parish office, please call to schedule a
time to pick them up. If you know of anyone who uses envelopes and
is not able to come out to pick them up during this pandemic,
please consider calling that person and offering to drop their box
off to them. Thank you for helping us stay connected with all our
parishioners!
LECTOR WORKBOOKS All those Lectors currently reading at Mass are
invited to pick up their 2020-2021 Lector Workbooks in the Parish
Office.
PRAYER SHAWLS TO ST. PAUL SCHOOL
The ladies of our Prayer Shawl Ministry were very busy over the
COVID shutdown and we had a large number of shawls ready to share
God’s love with people in need. So just before Thanksgiving we gave
a prayer shawl to each staff member at St. Paul’s school, to show
our prayers and support for them during this very difficult new
school year. 49 shawls were given out, and were greatly appreciated
by all. You can see a picture of the staff with their shawls by
clicking here! Thank you to all those who make our shawls, to the
St. Louis Prayer Shawl Ministry who donated some shawls so we had
enough, to those who donate yarn and supplies, and all of you who
are praying for our teachers and school staff. We are truly being
instruments of God’s peace.

Bishop Crosby has initiated the One Heart One Soul Campaign as
an unprecedented effort to renew and strengthen each parish in the
Diocese of Hamilton. He believes that by renewing projects
determined by the local parish, we strengthen our Diocesan
Community – enabling us to evangelize more effectively, proclaim
the Gospel more ardently, and draw more people in relationship with
Christ. The Parish is the place where no one is left out and
everyone is valued. The Parish is our home; it is a family of
families for our common faith and our common mission. It is here
that we celebrate moments of joy and it is here that we live
moments of sadness and sorrow. The Parish is the presence of the
Church in our midst: it is a window into the Divine and the place
where people meet Jesus. The Parish opens us to live what our
Baptism is all about.
~ Fr. Murray C.R.
ALL SOULS MEMORIAL MASS On Mon. Nov. 2 we will be having our
annual All Souls Memorial Mass, in memory of our loved ones who
have passed away in the last year. If you would like to join us for
the mass please call or email the parish office to RSVP, since we
have limited seating due to the pandemic.
THANK YOU to all who donated to our Thanksgiving Food Drive. You
brought in 686 lbs of food which has been delivered to the House of
Friendship, who work hand in hand with the Waterloo Region Food
Bank to support our neighbours in need. Thank you!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR
ST. FRANCIS PARISH FINANCE COMMITTEE
Each time a new Pastor comes to a parish the committees are
automatically dissolved. Thus, we are now seeking volunteers for
our St. Francis Parish Finance Committee. Please call our Parish
Office and let us know if you are interested in being on this
committee. Thank you for your consideration.
TEMPORARY HELP NEEDED Our Building Manager Gary will be off for
a few months beginning in November, and we are looking for one or
two people to help fill in while he is away. The job entails about
2 hours Monday – Friday, as well as being on call for snow removal
on the walkways before Masses. During this pandemic the bulk of the
responsibilities are cleaning and disinfecting in the church
itself. Remuneration will be offered. For a full “job” description
or if you have any questions please contact the parish office.
Thank you for considering!

and would like to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the

OCTOBER UPDATE TO MASS DURING COVID-19
Bishop Crosby sent out a letter to all parishioners on October 7
reinforcing the pandemic protocols that have been in place since we
reopened, and introducing some new rules. For instance, persons who
are unable to wear masks are still welcome at Mass but must sit in
a space away from those wearing masks and must receive communion in
their seat instead of walking up to the front. There are a couple
other minor changes, you can read the entire letter by clicking
here.
Thank you to all who are doing their best to keep our parish
safe. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the
parish office.
The Province of Ontario has made Masks mandatory in all enclosed
public spaces, including places of worship. There are some
exceptions; for all the details please go to the province’s
website: www.ontario.ca/. If you have not joined us for Mass yet
and are considering attending, please see the COVID-19 page on our
website for information you need before you attend. You can access
that page here.
Weekday Masses are Tuesday – Friday at 9:00 am Weekend Masses
are Saturday at 5:00 pm and Sunday at 9:00 am & 11:00 am
We are very excited to be worshiping together again, but we have
to do this carefully so that we keep everyone safe and healthy, so
thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to seeing you
soon!

September 23 – November 5
40 Days for Life has been active at the Freeport site for 10
years. Over that time, we have received various threats, although
no one has ever been physically harmed. The committee obviously
wants to do everything to ensure the safety of volunteers at the
site and minimize any risk, and so they are concerned about only
one person being at the site. This obviously is not the best
situation. There are many benefits to having at least two people at
the site for each hour. We are aware that many volunteers are very
comfortable being at the site on their own. However common sense
and Head Office guidelines dictate that wherever possible we have
two volunteers. Please review the empty hours below and sign up as
you are able. We are very grateful for all your support and
cooperation.
