Physical DataMaterial Mineral Fiber, Fiberglass,
Light-transmitting Polycarbonate and Metal. Surface Finish Smooth
for all but Filaments, which is woven fabric. Acoustics Panels made
from mineral fiber, fiberglass and perforated metal offer specific
Sabin contributions in providing Sound Absorption. Formations
Acoustical Clouds provide greater sound absorption than a
continuous ceiling of the same surface area because sound is
absorbed from front and back surfaces. The more live the space, the
greater the effect on reverberation time from the addition of
clouds. Recycled Content Mineral Fiber 70-80%, Fiberglass 70-75%
and Metal 25-50%. Suspension System/Perimeter Treatment Axiom for
Formations is an integrated Suspension and Trim System, designed
exclusively for Formations Accent and Acoustical Clouds. There is a
choice of a 2", 4" or 6" profile height or Knife Edge perimeter
treatment. Warranty Refer to warranty information in the back of
this catalog. Fire Performance Formations, as with other
architectural features located in the ceiling plane, may obstruct
or skew the existing or planned fire sprinkler water distribution
pattern, or possibly delay the activation of the fire sprinkler or
fire detection system. Consult a fire protection engineer, NFPA 13,
and local codes for guidance on the proper installation techniques
where fire detection or suppression systems are present.
Design ConsiderationsThere are several panel design options,
from Infusions to MetalWorks, to Filaments fabric-covered panels to
Ultima and Optima panels. Choose from three Axiom trim profiles.
Formations Acoustical Clouds should only be installed on a
horizontal plane. They are not approved for exterior use.
Installation ConsiderationsInstallation is easy with our Axiom
Trim and Suspension Kit which features our StrongBack cable
mounting system. Thats why Formations Clouds appear to float.
Always install Formations Accent and Acoustical Clouds in
accordance with applicable building codes and regulations.
Seismic RestraintBuilding codes may require lateral restraint in
certain locations. Such lateral restraints are not included. Please
consult your local building code for specific requirements.

Physical DataMaterial Polycarbonate Surface Finish Smooth Fire
Performance Infusions Canopies, as with other architectural
features located at the ceiling, may obstruct or skew the planned
fire sprinkler water distribution pattern, or possibly delay or
accelerate the activation of the sprinkler or fire detection
systems by channeling heat from a fire either toward or away from
the device. Designers and installers are advised to consult a fire
protection engineer, NFPA 13, and local codes for guidance where
automatic fire detection and suppression systems are present.
Infusions Canopies have been tested according to NFPA 286 and are
equivalent to Class A Interior Finish as defined in Chapter 8 of
the International Building Code. For proper fire performance, do
not install Polycarbonate panels so that any portion of the panel
is suspended directly above any portion of an aluminum panel.
Aluminum panels are noncombustible. Contact TechLine at (877)
276-7876 for specific US and Canadian fire performance data.

Design ConsiderationsInfusions Graphix panels have two
different, but coordinating designs printed on each side of the
panels (sides A and side B). The dominant canopy coloration will
change depending on which side faces downward. In addition, it is
important to note that the extrusion notches and small factory
screw holes can be visible when side B is faces downward. There is
just one base item number per Graphic design and color combination,
so the installer needs to understand which side has been specified
to face downward to achieve the desired effect. Infusions panels
should always be installed in accordance with all applicable
building codes and regulations. Do not cut holes in or drill
through Infusions Accent Canopies. Doing so may cause the panel to
bend in an irregular fashion. The lowest point of a suspended
Infusions panel should be at least 7'-6" above the finished floor
surface. Infusions Canopies are not approved for exterior
application. Plastic panels can be damaged by exposure to high
temperatures. Panel temperature should not be permitted to exceed
100 F after the tensioning cables have been installed. Follow these
guidelines for minimum distance from standard light sources: LAMP

your design plan. See data page CS-3910 on our web site for details
and some design guidelines or contact TechLine at 1 877
ARMSTRONG.
Installation ConsiderationsThe International Building Code
requires the attachment of free floating architectural components
to be designed for three times the design load. Use the assembled
canopy weights provided in this table to select mounting hardware
that will meet this requirement: MATERIAL 2' x 5' 2' x 6' 4' x 10'
Solid Polycarbonate 21 lbs 25 lbs n/a Channeled Polycarbonate 6 lbs
7 lbs 26 lbs Aluminum 21 lbs 25 lbs n/a Always install in
accordance with installation instructions. Do not allow panel edges
to get wet.
Seismic Restraint 1The International Building Code allows
architectural components to swing freely as long as they will not
be damaged or cause damage. Cable lengths less than 20 inches will
generate the greatest amount of pendulum reaction during a seismic
event, and should therefore be avoided. When it is not practical to
use cables greater than 20 inches long allow lateral clearance
around the canopies equal to, or greater than, the length of the
cable. Canopies suspended from cables greater than 20 inches long
will swing no more than 8 inches. Restraint of canopies has proven
to be ineffective and is not recommended.1 Pendulum reaction
information is based on full scale testing and computer modeling
conducted at the Structural Engineering Earthquake Simulation Lab
located at the State University of New York at Buffalo

Installation Considerations SoundScapes Canopies must remain in
their cartons until ready to hang. They require two people to
handle and install a panel safely. Do not remove the canopy edge
protectors until the panel is installed. See Installation
Instructions on website for details. Design Considerations
SoundScapes Canopies cannot be cut, drilled, or altered in any way.
The panels can be damaged by exposure to moisture, to high
temperatures and to high humidity. SoundScapes Canopies are not
approved for exterior application. Field painting may affect the
acoustical and/or fire performance, is not recommended and would
void the product warranty. The SoundScapes cable hanging system
must not hang from any commercial ceiling suspension system. The
canopy must not be used to support any other material. Acoustical
Performance 30 Sabin per panel using ASTM C423, or 78% more sound
absorption than the same square footage of NRC 0.70 continuous
ceilings. Light Reflectance 0.86 Weight 50 lbs per panel Fire
Performance ASTM E84 Class A per IBC SoundScapes Canopies, as with
other architectural features located at the ceiling, may obstruct
or skew the planned fire sprinkler water distribution pattern, or
possibly delay or accelerate the activation of the sprinkler or
fire detection systems by channeling heat from a fire either toward
or away from the device. Designers and installers are advised to
consult a fire protection engineer, NFPA 13, and local codes for
guidance where automatic fire detection and suppression systems are
present. Seismic Restraint* The International Building Code allows
architectural components to swing freely as long as they will not
be damaged or cause damage. Canopies suspended will swing no more
than 18" in any direction for each panel. * Pendulum reaction
information is based on full scale testing andcomputer modeling
conducted at the Structural Engineering Earthquake Simulation Lab
located at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Consideration SoundScapes Shapes maintain a natural sag that may
not be noticeable when installed 6" or less apart. Deflection up to
1/8" has been documented in some cases. SoundScapes Shapes should
be installed on no more than a 5 slope Fire Performance SoundScapes
Shapes panel material is ASTM E84 Class A: Flame Spread 25 or under
and Smoke Developed 50 or less. SoundScapes Shapes, as with other
architectural features located in the ceiling plane, may obstruct
or skew the existing or planned fire sprinkler water distribution
pattern, or possibly delay the activation of the fire sprinkler or
fire detection system. Consult a fire protection engineer, NFPA 13,
and local codes for guidance on the proper installation techniques
where fire detection or suppression systems are present. ASTM E1264
Classification Type XII, Form 2, Pattern E Acoustical Performance
SoundScapes Shapes offer excellent sound absorption. They provide
greater sound absorption than a continuous ceiling of the same area
because sound is absorbed from front and back surfaces. Color
shapes have slightly reduced acoustical performance. See data page
CS-3867 for details. Seismic Restraint* The International Building
Code allows architectural components to swing freely as long as
they will not be damaged or cause damage. Shapes suspended
individually with aircraft cable will swing no more than 18" in any
direction for each panel. Shapes direct attached to drywall or
suspended in group systems have been engineered for application in
all seismic areas. * Pendulum reaction information is based on full
scale testing andcomputer modeling conducted at the Structural
Engineering Earthquake Simulation Lab located at the State
University of New York at Buffalo.
Recommended Suspension Systems SoundScapes Shapes are
pre-assembled with metal extrusions in the back of the panels.
Standard accessory kits facilitate quick and easy installation from
the deck, through a ceiling or directly attached to drywall. See
Installation Instructions LA-297302 for installation details.
