Courses and Workshops FOR THE GALLERYTo register for courses email [email protected] or call 945-8111
DrawingWith Gabrielle WheatonLocation: The National Gallery Education CentreTerm: May 8 - June 26 (8 sessions)Day: Every Tuesday eveningSession: 7.00 – 9.00 pmFees: $190 ($171 members)
This class is a beginner’s drawing class, designed to teach those who want to learn the basic, classical drawing skills from the ground up. Students will learn foundation drawing skills, from sharpening a pencil to making a form appear 3-dimensional. The aim is to teach the students to see, by teaching how to measure proportions using the “Sight-Size” method, the use of negative shapes for correction and for refining a sketch, and the use of light and dark shapes to bring form to the work.
Painting or drawing the Still Lifewith Emé PaschalidesLocation: The National Gallery Education CentreTerm: May 1st – June 26 (9 sessions)Day: Every Tuesday MorningTime: 09:30 am -12:30 pmFees:Full term: $217 ($195 members)Single drop-in session: $35Instructor present each TuesdayClass limited to 15 students
Emé Paschalides welcomes serious beginner and advanced students to explore the fundamental techniques or representational painting. The workshop has a focus on the time-honoured genre of still life,
with an emphasis on composition and on the nuances of light and form. Ms Paschalides does not teach formally but she can provide guidance to specific techniques, from oil painting to charcoal drawing, if the student requires it. Students are free to use the studio as they wish in the medium and style of their choice, but they are expected to create a visual depiction of the still life composition provided. This workshop is designed to encourage intense observation and to find ways of dealing with the inevitable obstacles of representational art, so students who wish to paint in a non-representational way should join the studio on a Friday morning instead, when abstract painting is being practiced.
