The building i was assigned to reproduce, examine and develop through a series of projects was the 2000 The Altamira School by Mathias Klotz, located in El Acueducto, Peñalolen, Chile. Altamira Secondary School is located at the footstep of the Chilean (Cordillera) mountains of Los Andes in Peñalolén, Santiago. In order to adapt to the populat - ing growth of the city, the demands of new education - al developments scheme became an important goal to the community of Peñalolén. For the College of Altamira Klotz designed the surrounding landscape creating an artificial hill slop - ing towards the Cordillera Mountains in an effort to integrate the building with its surounds. The strong response to the landscape, with the sloping roof con - necting the heart of the communal structure to the street, provides for both community integration and practical needs of the school. Klotz design is purpose - ly crafted down to the finest element; with aims the detail is to pass unnoticed within the totality of the whole. Mathias characterised for the technical detailing in his work that resemble carefully crafted ensemble. This project later led Mathias to be awarded second prize at the International Architecture Biennale in Miami for his Altamira Secondary school project in 2002.
