Spotlight On: Prek Takong 1 Community (Pictured above, STT, 2014). Located on the edges of the Boeung Tompun lake, families first settled at this site in 1986. This settlement was established as a cohesive

community in 2006, through support of World Vision and by 2013, approximately 352 families lived there. In

2010, community members found out through hear‐say that they may be evicted due to the construction of

the Hun Sen Boulevard. Although the threat has not been formalized, families now live in fear of losing both

their homes and their livelihood – already some of the fields cultivated by the community for vegetables are

filled by the sand from the development company around their settlement.

Spotlight On: Samaki Rong Roeung, (pictured, STT, 2014) Settled in 1982, along the canal

edge of Boeung Trabek sewage system, this

settlement was established as a community in 2004

thanks to the support of the Urban Poor

Development Fund (UPDF). The 352 families of the

community received a formal written eviction notice

in 2010 from the Khan level, with 10 days to

evacuate, due to the development works linked to

the Boeung Trabek canal improvement. After

advocating and filing an official complaint to the

Khan, the families remain there to this day. Yet in

2014, the local authority (Sangkat) numbered all the

houses with spray‐paint in what can only be further

preparation for eviction.
