DESTINO PERU

Destino Peru was founded

in 2005 as a language immersion

opportunity for high school

students taking Spanish. Since

then, the trip

has evolved,

shifting its focus from language-

learning to the exploration of thecultural, historical, natural, and

economic reality of Peru. The

result is a learning adventure

that would simply be impossible

to replicate in a classroom with

even the most cutting-edge

educational media.

In conjunction with this

exploration, we strive to

inculcate in our young visitors

t h e u n d e r s t a n d i n g t h a t

responsible traveling meansgiving as much as one takes.

Over the years, visiting students

have given their time and energy

to a number of community

programs and service providers,

including children’s hospitals,

orphanages, and nursing homes.

The work we do in Peru is

 valuable, impacting and life-

ch a n gin g for our y oun g

travelers.

Peru is a beautiful country, one that holds one of the eight

man-made wonders of the world

—Machu Picchu.

Its life is rich,

 varied, and cosmopolitan.

During this trip the students

 visit Lima (the capital), Cusco

(the Inca City), Nasca (the

mysterious lines), Colca (one of

the deepest canyons in the

 world), and Lake Titicaca (the

highest navigable lake in the

 world).

 Al though Dest ino Peru

takes a full year of preparation,

 when t h e s t u d e n t s

return and they

sh a r e th e ir

“most amazing

t r i p a n d

experience”, it

gives me the

m o s t

 v a l u a b l eincentive to

prepare the

next one.
