Dear Friends,
Starting school brings with it, among many things, the joy of beginning again! God
gives us many new starts in our life and the opening of the new academic year and
the pastoral year is yet another graced moment for all of us: to begin afresh! It’s a
time to set new goals, not only academically, but spiritually.
Salvation history chronicles many new starts which God offers to His peo-
ple. God’s encounter of man begins with Adam, but later when things go awry because of the sinfulness of
man, God offers us a new beginning, a new start, as He did with Noah, then Abraham, and later with King Da-
vid, and finally with Jesus.
Time and again, Our Lord comes to the aid of humanity and assists us with a new opportunity to start
over on the path to righteousness. So, even if last year’s academic and pastoral year was not as successful as
we may have hoped for, we have now another opportunity for a clean and fresh start. So, let’s resolve to set
out this academic year – as students, teachers, workers – with great zeal and great joy – in applying ourselves
in the coming weeks to the tasks of acquiring new learning, attaining the truth, and doing the good.
This past week many of our college students returned to their respective campuses assisted by their
doting parents in overstuffed family cars. Upon arriving and settling in, the young collegians bid a tearful
goodbye to their parents, but were no doubt buoyed up with new hope that the new academic year would bring
many wonderful experiences. These scenes of returning to school will be played out at every level from col-
lege to pre-school and pre-K in the coming days.
This coming week our Saint Agnes School students will also begin a new academic year. Grades 5th to
8th will return on Tuesday; Grades 1st to 4th will return on Wednesday; and then we will have a full house on
Thursday with all grades reporting. Our teachers have been making preparations for a joyful new year. So, we
welcome you back and we wish you joy as you begin your new year!
I take this opportunity to welcome our new PREP students and families and new catechists as well as
all our returning PREP students and catechists who will beginning their new pastoral year on Tuesday,
September 11th and Wednesday, September 12th. I thank our Catechists and Aides for generously contrib-
uting your time and talent to our program. I pray that this will be a wonderful year of spiritual growth with the
guidance of our Director of Religious Education (DRE) Debbie Smith. Welcome one and all to PREP!
While Labor Day weekend has come to mark the unofficial end to summer, our Federal holiday of La-
bor Day, which was founded in 1894, is designed to celebrate the importance of American labor, recognizing
the historical progress brought about by trade unions and the labor movement in advancing and protecting var-
ious rights of labor while building up a strong and prosperous America. We take this opportunity to salute all
those men and women who continue the important work of building America.
May the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Seat of Wisdom, guide and protect all our children as they begin a
new year with God’s grace, peace, and joy! More good things to come! Let’s strive to grow in holiness!
Devotedly ours in Jesus, Our Lord,

BOY SCOUTS
Boy Scouts is not a club; it is a boy-led organization. An important aspect of this is that the boys
work to fund their own activities. One of T153’s fundraisers will take place after the Masses on the
weekend of September 8-9. Keep in mind that we are not "selling popcorn"—we know you can get
popcorn much cheaper elsewhere! With Trail's End popcorn, though, 73% of every purchase goes directly to
Scouting—it helps us do the things we do. Thanks for your support in our efforts! We take credit cards, too!
If you’re interested in finding out more about us, check out our new website at www.t153.org.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS:
SILVER ROSE PROGRAM 2018
Tuesday, September 4th, 6:00 PM
The Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose Program is
a "travelling" prayer service which is rooted in the
Blessed Mother's visitation with the peasant chil-
dren near Guadalupe, Mexico in 1531.
In 1960, an annual devotional
"Travelling Rose" effort was initiated
in Canada with a natural rose leaving
Ontario Canada in March and being
flown over much of the United States
to Laredo Texas. From there the rose
was transported by foot "run" on its
way to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in
Monterrey, Mexico. The culmination of the journey
at the Basilica occurred on December 12th, the Feast
Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe cerebrated in Cana-
da, United States and Mexico.
Since that time the program evolved into the K of
C's One Life, One Rose Our Lady of Guadalupe Sil-
ver Rose Program in existence today.
The K of C commissioned seven (7) Silver Roses
with are intended to travel different routes across the
United States each year on their journey to Mexico.
This year, Pennsylvania has been included on the
intended cross country path of one of those Silver
Roses. The PA State Council's East Region was des-
ignated to host the Silver Rose Prayer Program dur-
ing the 1st week of September (9/2-8/18), 2018.
The Silver Rose Devotion to the Blessed Mother
will take place at 6:00PM in the Chapel
on September 4th. All are welcome.
