CommunicationTechnology in distance education

The term Distance Education is used to describe an educational situation where the instructor and students are separated by time, location or both.Education is delivered either synchronously (define),depending upon the technology used to the remote locations.The means of instruction utilize written correspondence, text, graphics, audio and videotapes, CDs, interactive TV, Internet, audio/video conferencing and such technology. The definition of e-learning is included in Distance Learning since it only concentrates on use of electronic devices.

ICT in Virtual Campus at COMSATS Institute of Information

Technology of Pakistan After realizing the importance of Distance Education, Directorate of Distance Education was set up at CIIT to establish a ‘Virtual Campus’ just like other campuses. The virtual Campus was then established in June 2008.

The distance Education provided at the Virtual Campus, CIIT makes use of the latest technology and applications, for example, internet and video conferencing.

The objective of establishing Distance Education at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) is to promote Distance Education through e-learning using modern Information and Communication Technologies, to enhance quality of education and to optimize the services of qualified, experienced teachers and researchers at CIIT, and to contribute towards the knowledge based economy of the country/nation.

Suggested Agenda For introducing ICT At Higher Education Sector

Higher education sectors are required an integrated e-Leaning solutions to introduce and apply technology in their education atmosphere.

(i.e. Universities are mainly required to develop study curriculums and courses, developing instructors/professors skills, developing education methodology, developing study delivering techniques, employed education standards, use education management systems and developing university’s communication and IT infrastructure). Investment in higher education should be address to build and develop a real integrated education technology, in order to graduate students with skills and knowledge permit them to enter job market and open the door for the opportunity to continue their study as well.
