5.What organization was the forerunner to the UnitedNations?

ANSWER: The League of Nations was an internationalorganization founded as a result of the Paris PeaceConference in 1919-1920. The Leagues goals included

disarmament, preventing war through collective security,settling disputes between countries through negotiationdiplomacy and improving global welfare. The diplomaticphilosophy behind the League represented a fundamentalshift in thought from the preceding hundred years. TheLeague lacked an armed force of its own and so dependedon the Great Powers to enforce its resolutions, keep to

economic sanctions which the League ordered, or providean army, when needed, for the League to use. However,they were often very reluctant to do so. Benito Mussolinistated The League is very well when sparrows shout, butno good at all when eagles fall out.

After a number of notable successes and some early failures

in the 1920s, the League ultimately proved incapable ofpreventing aggression by the Axis Powers in the 1930s. Theonset of the Second World War suggested that the Leaguehad failed in its primary purpose to avoid any future world

ANSWER: The United Nations (UN) is an internationalorganization whose stated aims are to facilitate co-operationin international law, international security, economicdevelopment, social progress and human rights issues.The United Nations was founded in 1945 to replace theLeague of Nations, in the hope that it would intervenein conflicts between nations and thereby avoid war. The

In 1960, a visionary named Juliet Hollister (1916-2000)created the Temple of Understanding (TOU). Her visioncame to her with the recognition that the world was ingrave danger unless the gifts, wisdom, and insights of

religious traditions could be recognized and cultivated topromote positive social change. Juliet began to develop heridea by appealing to former First Lady Eleanor Rooseveltand making a trip around the world to gather support for

what would become the Temple of Understanding.

When Juliet shared her plans with Mrs. Roosevelt, she

saw the power of the vision immediately. You must meetreligious and political leaders from around the world. I will

write letters of introduction for you, she told Juliet. Mrs.Roosevelt wrote as an endorsement for the project, Maythis greatly needed Temple of Understanding come into

realization soon, for our world surely needs the inspirationand leadership of such a Spiritual United Nations.

That year, Juliet and her 11-year-old son Dickerman set outaround the world to enlist support from such luminariesas President Nassar, Anwar-el Sadat, President Nehru,Pope John XXIII, and Albert Schweitzer who wrote back,Come at once and I will send a canoe. The response wasoverwhelming. My hopes and prayers are with you in therealization of the great Temple of Understanding, which hasa profound significance ... The Spirit burns in many flames,Dr. Schweitzer wrote in the travel log.

In the December 1962 issue of Life Magazine, the featurearticle was about Juliet Hollisters Wonderful Obsessionto draw people together to build a movement embracingall faiths. In response, the organization received donations

from all over the world. It seemed that the idea to achieveunderstanding and harmony among the people of the

11.Who is Robert Muller?

ANSWER: Robert Muller (born 1923 in Belgium) is anemployee of the United Nations, whose ideas about

world government, world peace and spirituality led to theincreased representation of religions in the UN, includingNew Age cults and traditional cults. He has become knownas the Philosopher of the UN.

Muller was raised in the Alsace-Lorraine region of Franceduring World War II. After the war he earned a Doctorateof Law at the University of Strasbourg and in 1948 wonan essay contest on how to govern the world. The prize
