Principal’s Reflection
Dear Families,
As the term comes to a close I would like to thank all our
families for their support during this
past semester. It has been a rewarding and positive time for the
school community with many
highlights. Thanks to our teachers for their hard work in
creating such a positive environment.
This week we celebrated with students who graduated from the
MiniLit and MultiLit
programme. Over the last 20 weeks these students have been
undertaking an intensive
programme to assist in improving their reading and
comprehension. I would like to
congratulate all of the students and their hard working teachers
Robyn Luter, Joanna
Danko, Susan Bokelmann and Anne Redmond for the many hours they
have put in
and the results they have achieved with students.
This Friday, the last day of term we celebrate our Annual School
Dance-a-thon. On the day, students are encouraged to
dress up in the “wild” theme and be ready to dance. Parents are
more than welcome to come along and help, or hit the dance
floor. A reminder that all money raised through sponsorship goes
towards assisting us with the installation of new cold wa-
ter bubblers
Our School Board held its Annual General Meeting last Thursday
night. From the elections held Johanna Stieber has been
reappointed as School Board Chair and Otto Kainulainen has been
appointed as Board Secretary. We congratulate Johanna
and Otto on their appointments.
At this year’s Darwin show, held during the holidays, families
will be able to see many masterpieces created by Holy Spirit
students. Cindee Millington, one of our parents, has been
working with a large group of students over the last six weeks
at
lunchtimes to create these entries. We thank Cindee for the
ongoing support she gives the school with our Visual Arts pro-
gramme.
During the holiday break, Holy Spirit will be a very busy place
with lots of construction and repairs
being undertaken. The staff and student toilets on the ground
level will have major repairs and
maintenance being carried out, such as tiling, plumbing and
painting. Repairs to the school roof to
rectify leaking issues will be undertaken and there will also be
gardening, painting and some re-
carpeting projects taking place. As there will be only be a
small number of staff at the school during
this time we ask that you please call the office before coming
in to ensure that the front office is open
for your visit. A reminder to parents that the school office
will be closed from the 18th to the 21st of
July as front office staff are undertaking professional
development training.
Term 3 commences for students on Tuesday the 26st of July.
Please note that Monday 25th July is a student free day as all
staff are undertaking professional development. Vacation Care
will be available for families on this day if required. Please
ensure that you have completed and returned to the office a
vacation form if your child needs care on this day.
God bless you all and keep you safe over the big break,
Mr. Simon Duffy
Principal

MAKING JESUS REAL (MJR) AT HOLY SPIRIT
In Week 10 Term 2 Peter ‘Mitch’ Mitchell visited Holy Spirit
Catholic Primary School, working with teachers and students
in
Years 3-6.
Mitch reminded us that MJR has a simple message – Jesus is
part of our lives and can change the way we live; that we
can
make Jesus real through our daily actions and words. An im-
portant aspect of MJR is learning how to recognise ‘God Mo-
ments’ or the ‘Spirit of Jesus’ in an encounter with a friend,
a
cheerful greeting, a smile, a wink of encouragement, an offer
of
a helping hand or an unexpected compliment. MJR leads us to
be ‘winners and grinners’ rather than ‘moaners and groaners’,
to
look for positives in each day, and to make sure we let
others
know how much we appreciate them in our lives, and how to
pass on the Good News each day.
MJR is not a programme, but a way of life - Christ's way.
MJR
is a simple message, it is part of our lives, the way we live
our
daily lives. This is a great programme teaching our students
about living the Spirit of Jesus in the here and now.
Emma Marshall Assistant Principal Religious Education
MINI VINNIES AT HOLY SPIRIT On Monday, 20th June 2016 Virginia
Spicer, Youth Coordinator
NT at St Vincent de Paul Society, visited Year 3/4 classes.
Vir-
ginia spoke to students about St Vincent de Paul and what
they
do. The students participated in a short activity to highlight
the
link between St Vincent de Paul, Religious Education
curriculum
and our world.
What is Mini Vinnies?
Mini Vinnies is a programme designed for groups of primary
school students who are interested in social justice. Mini
Vinnies
students get together within their school to help those in
need
within their school, local or international community. Mini
Vin-
nies introduces children to social justice
issues, The St Vincent de Paul Society and
to living faith through action.
