PROFESSIONALPROGRAMMEThe great summer programme in our beautiful building offers up (among other things) an amazingly popular Photography Workshop with Maria Falconer. Dance is so inspiring to many photographers and there are some superb professional tricks that Maria will share.

On May 18th we have a PRIME TIME day during the Luminate Festival, with classes, film and performances from and with our beloved elder company, PRIME. We are also asking for donationsduring this day but this is entirely at your discretion… look out for the silent auction with someunique and precious items for your dance and art collection.

Don’t forget that our professional programme has residencies for dance artists, with showings onthe last day, usually at 4pm and 5pm on Fridays. Please come along and see what they’ve beenworking on. It’s free and all you have to do is be there!

Morag Deyes MBE Artistic Director

PRIME TIME!PRIME continue to flourish and grow and this term we invite youto enjoy a day with the company as part of the Luminate Festival.

On Saturday 18 May, we will begin by offering you gentle, enjoyable classes in dance and Pilates especially designed formature bodies. Then PRIME perform live from their repertoire, inviting special friends to join them.

PRIME are Scotland’s first semi-professional dance company fordancers over 60. They have performed new work and changedperceptions of dance for many years and we are determined thatthis will continue to evolve. A CREATIVECENTURY

There are so many ways to be creative, to express how you feel, to set aside workand commitments and just be you. Some people sing, others dance, some write, others play music – whether it’s acting on stage, tending your garden or crafting acracking meal, creativity comes in many forms, and we all get different things out of it depending on our age and stage.

This exhibition of photographic portraits, testimonials and short filmed interviewsfeatures ten Edinburgh residents who regularly get creative in their own way. Starting with a young boy under ten, the photographs wind their way through theyears, featuring a person from each decade of our lives up to 90-something.

Included in the exhibition is a young woman who loses herself in creative writing, a 40-something who loves singing and dancing with her amateur dramatics group, a clarinettist in his 70s who never misses Monday night rehearsals with his concertband, and a dancer in her 80s who has found a second ‘family’ with her troupe.

Hosted at Dance Base as part of the Get Creative Festival 2019 and Luminate, this project by Voluntary Arts Scotland aims to inspire you to flex your creative muscles, whatever your age.
