SCRIPTURE READINGS
First Reading: Isaiah 55:10‑11 Just as the rain and snow water the earth and make it fruitful, so does the word of God bring forth good seed. Second Reading: Romans 8:18‑23 The glory which awaits us in the next life, far outweighs any-thing we could suffer in this life. Gospel: Matthew 13:1‑23 Jesus compares the word of God to a seed falling into the ground.

Scripture reflection with Fr. Tim + Pause + Reflect + Act +
1) How do you make room for God’s word to form your life?
2) When have you experienced suffering as life sustaining?
3) Looking back on your life through the lens of today’s parable, have you experienced environments that have been rocky ground, thorny ground, or rich soil?
4) How can you cultivate rich soil within your life now so to grow in faith?

Who entered into eternal rest. May his soul eternally Rest in Peace.
Please join His Holiness, Pope Francis, who has chosen the following intention
to be prayed for during the month of July.

HOLY FATHER’S PRAYER INTENTION
ASK A FRANCISCAN… What caused St. Anthony of Padua to go to Italy? He got sick as a missionary in North Africa and was heading
home, but his ship ended up in Sicily, where he stayed with
the friars. Because they were going to the annual chapter
(meeting) of the friars in Assisi, he joined them. This was in
1220; St. Francis was there, but we do not know if they met.
There were several thousand friars at this chapter. When the
chapter ended, Anthony went with the friars from Emilia
Romagna (Bologna area).

SAINT OF THE WEEK Our Lady of Mount Carmel 12th Century Feast Day – July 16 Mount Carmel, which juts out into the Mediter-ranean near Haifa, Israel, has been considered a sacred place since the prophet Elijah built an altar there in his contest with the prophets of Baal. The Carmel headland is traditionally associated with the begin-nings of the Carmelite order around 1195, when a group of lay hermits formed a community there. Mary had been honored there as early as the fifth century, and by the 12th century Mount Carmel had become a site of Marian devotion. The Carmelites chose Mary as their protectress and dedicated their oratory on Mount Carmel to her. Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the patron of Bolivia and Chile. This Marian feast became an optional memorial in the Revised Roman Calendar of 1969.

A Prayer for Married Couples Almighty and eternal God,
You blessed the union of
married couples so that
they might reflect the union
of Christ with his Church:
look with kindness on
them.
Renew their marriage
covenant, increase
your love in them, and strengthen their bond of peace so
that, with their children, they may
always rejoice in the gift of your blessing.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
