2/13/2017 - This issue - our 20th - is intern Adam Theriault’s last one. I’d like to publicly thank Adam for taking on the tough task of helping start a new publication with readership in the high hundreds and no blueprint to follow. Together, we learned on the go (sometimes by the seat of our pants). Adam helped blazed a new journalistic trail and leaves the Booster Bulletin in good form for continued success. Adam will be replaced by his classmate Lauren Jeandell who, like her predecessor, hopes to study sports journalism. You can read more about both interns in our ‘In the Spotlight’ section later in the issue. Thank you, Adam; welcome, Lauren; and GO FALCONS! IN THE SPOTLIGHT : Adam Theriault passes the torch

When the Booster Club adopted the idea of producing a weekly newsletter this fall, our goal was to streamline communications with members, coaches and athletes, and to reach a new audience of folks who don’t yet know about us. We hadn’t anticipated just how much work putting out a weekly publication is. Enter Liz Brisco and her successful Student Internship program. After a brief discussion with Liz, we realized we had a legitimate Internship opportunity right here with the Booster Club - and Liz helped us fill it.

Senior, Adam Theriault, was our first semester intern. Adam was here for our inaugural issue and all of the challenges a first effort brings. An AHS Varsity Baseball player (who plays year-round), and overall, self-described sports-lover, Adam signed up for the internship as a way to improve his writing and reporting skills. Adam credits his Booster Bulletin internship experience with helping him improve as a writer and communicator. “I appreciated the encouragement and support I got from the athletics department, Booster Club members, and everyone who reads the Booster Bulletin,” he says. In addition to being part of the baseball team and the Booster Bulletin staff (which includes being Booster Club student representative), Adam is a member of AHS Student Government and the FRIENDS Club - a social justice awareness club. He will attend Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts this fall. Thank you, and good luck, Adam! Adam’s second semester replacement is fellow senior, Lauren Jeandell. Currently co-captain of the AHS basketball team (and formerly co-captain of the Field Hockey team), Lauren aslo rows Crew, so she has a broad and true appreciation for Avon Athletics. Lauren looks forward to refining her interviewing and writing skills, as Booster Bulletin intern. She also is eager to learn more about the teams and athletes that make up the Falcon family. Lauren is a member of the National Honor Society and is Editor of the 2017 yearbook. She looks forward to her next ‘chapter,’ at either Temple University and the University of Delaware (she is still deciding). Welcome to the Booster Bulletin, Lauren!

Incoming Booster Bulletin Intern, Lauren Jeandell, left, and outgoing intern, Adam Theriault, pose in front of the AHS Internship (Liz Brisco’s) office.
