In sp ec io nThis ins t rument has been thoroughly tested and inspected before beingshipped and is r ea dy f or use when received. After the ins t rument is unpacked, the ins t rument should be careful lyinspected for damage received in t rans i t . I f any shipping damage is fo und, fo llowthe procedure outlined in the IlClaim fo r Damage In Shipment" page a t the back ofthis instruct ion book.

Controls and TerminalsINPUT - The bInding posts marked INPUT and G are input te rmina ls ofthe ins t rument . An ex te rna l sine wave which is to be sq uare is fed in to the in

s t rument through these t e rminals . The control marked INPUT is used to controlthe ampli tude of the i npu t vo lt age . ThIS control is cal ibrated from 0 to 100 inarbi t rary uni ts .

OSC. D 601\, - This toggle switch is provided so that an external voltage ora 60 cycles vol age from a secondary of the power t ransformer , may be suppliedto the input of the ins t rument . When the switch is in the OSC. posit ion the exte rnal voltage IS used . In the 601\, posit ion the vol ta ge t aken f rom the power t r ans fo rmer is used. The INPUT control does not control the ampli tude of the in te rna lvoltage.

OFF D ON - This toggle switch controls the power suppli ed to the ins t rumenfrom the power l ine. When the swi tch is in the ON posit ion, the i nd ic a to r i n theenter of the on tro l pane l i s l igh ed.

DB - The at tenuator is used to r educe an es tabl i shed outpu t vo lt age by anynumber---ot"decibels up to 70 db. The in terna l impedance remains constant r ega rd les s of the set t ing of the at tenuator .

Output - This group of three binding posts a re th e o utp ut t e rmina ls of theins t rument . The binding pos t marked G i s connected to the chass i s w hile th e othetwo binding post s a re connected to the at t enuator .

Fuse - T he fu se is loca ted in a fu se b lo ck n ex t to the power cable on theunderside of the chass i s . Remove the bo tt om p la te to gain access to the fuse.Opera t ion

    The procedure f or o pe ra tin g this ins t rument is as follows:1. Turn the p o we r s wi tc h to ON. Connect th e O UT PU T t e rmina ls tothe equipment under tes t .2. I f a 60'\ square wave is d esired , se t the OSC. -60' \ toggle switch

to the 60'\ posi t ion.3. Set the to gg le switch to the OSC. posi t ion and apply a sine wavevoltage of the des i red f requency to the INPUT t e rmina ls i f a square wave otherthan the f requency of the p ow er lin e is d es ir ed .

CAUT IONThe maximum vo lt age appl ied to th e IN PU T t erm in al s mu st not exceed

200 volts RMS.4. I f the input voltage does not exceed approximately 25 vol ts , theINPUT control should be se t at 100. T his con tro l m ay be used to reduce the

i npu t vo lt age when vol tages above 25 vol ts a re encountered.

When balanced output is des i red , the balance between the tw o s ides ofthe output c i rcu i t can be measured with a vol tmeter . Connect a DC vol tmeterbetween the tw o OUTPUT t e rmina ls and measu r e the vol tage . A vol tagebetween the t e rmina ls of not more than 3 volts represents a sa t i s fac torybalance .

The output c i r cu i t m ay be u se d fo r s ingle ended operat ion by connectingthe equipment being dr iven between the ground (G) t e rmina l and e i ther of theother OUTPUT t e rmina ls . I t is neces sa ry to use a coupling capaci tor andgr id r e s i s to r between the output of the Model 2l0A and the grid of the tubebeing dr iven w hen the output c ir cu it i s connected f or s in gle ended operat ion.

The in terna lThis imped-5. Adjust the at tenuator (DB) for des i red output vol tage .impedance of th e o utp ut c i rcu i t is 1000 ohms balanced to ground.ance is not affected by the set t ing of the at tenuator .

Circuit DescriptionThe Model 210A Square Wave Genera tor is d esig ne d to change a sinewav e in to a square wave.Tubes VI and V2 amplify and clip the peaks of the sine wave a pp lie d

to the input t e rmina ls of the ins t rument . Tube V3 se rves as a phase in ve r te r which feeds the par t ia l ly squared wave to the tw o sect ions of thedirec t coupled amp li fi er con si st ing of tubes V4, V5, V6, V7. The twooutput tubes V5 and V7 feed into the ou tp ut at tenuator which cont ro l s theampli tude of the square wave obt ai ned a t the output t e rmina ls .

Two power suppl ies are provided to mee t the requi rements of thedirec t coupled ampl i f i e r .

    M a in t e n a n ceCover and Bottom Pla te Remova l - -

The cover is r emoved by unscrewing the four screws which fastenthe cover to the back of the ins t rument and sliding the cover toward the r ea rof the ins t rument .

The bot tom p la te is rem oved by unsc rewing the four sc rews , one ineach co rne r of the bot tom plate, which fasten the plate to the chas s i s .Tube Replacement -=

When replacing tube V5 and /o r V7. the outpu t shou ld be checked tosee tha t the rep lacement tube has not caused excess ive unbalance .
