Exploration, Resource andMining Geology Conference 2013
Getting it right from the outset21-22 October 2013, Cardiff, Wales, UK
Proudly hosted by
Headline Sponsor
On behalf of the organising committee for the Exploration, Resource
and Mining Geology Conference 2013, and jointly hosted by The
Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (The AusIMM) and The
Geological Society of London, I invite you to register your attendance at
this inaugural conference being held in Cardiff, United Kingdom from
the 21 – 22 October.
We are operating in challenging times and with reducing commodity
prices and a difficult project funding regime, there are few mining
projects where an easy dollar is to be made. There are particular
challenges that must be faced, including the need for cost-effective
discovery strategies and methods; evaluation and extraction of often
lower-grade geologically and/or metallurgically complex deposits;
understanding time-orebody variability to achieve the optimum mine
plan; and predicting grades in geologically complex deposits.
This inaugural conference will include workshops on topics such as:
Concepts in the Sampling of Gold Deposits; Mining Geology and Grade
Control; Mineral Resource Reporting; and Geology in the
Exploration-Resource Process. Post-conference tours will include site
visits to look at tin-tungsten mineralisation in South West England, and
gold and base metals in Wales. A breakfast seminar on day two looks at
recent advances in Geostatistics.
I look forward to welcoming you to the Exploration, Resource and
Mining Geology Conference 2013, Cardiff. I am sure that you will find it
both a rewarding and engaging experience.

Date: Wednesday 23 – Friday 25 October 2013
The South West England Orefield has historically been of great economicimportance, yielding 2.5 Mt of tin and 2 Mt of copper. It hosts world-classgranite-related hydrothermal mineral deposits. This three day field trip aimsto inspect a number of key deposit styles, including tin-tungsten sheetedveins; tourmaline-tin lodes; replacement/skarn tin deposits; and in-situkaolinite (china clay) deposits.
