Prepare Vehicle for Service This installation should be performed by a professional installer. If you do not have proper tools, safety equipment, and training you run the risk of injuring yourself of damaging your car. The use of a lift is strongly recommended to perform this installation. It is highly recommended to spray various nuts and bolts in the factory exhaust with a penetrant such as PB Blaster or WD40 and allow it to soak for a few hours to avoid seized or broken bolts. Step 1: Disconnect Battery Remove the negative battery cable to battery nut and separate the cable from the battery. Step 2: Remove Turbo Heat Shield Remove the 3 - 10mm head fasteners holding the heat shield to the turbo and exhaust housing. Remove the housing and set aside for re-use along with the bolts. PHOTO HERE: Step 3: Disconnect O2 Sensors from Engine Wiring Harness Disconnect the primary and secondary O2 sensors from the engine wiring harness. The primary sensor connector can be found near the rear of the cylinder head on the driver’s side. The secondary sensor must be disconnected from underneath the vehicle The primary O2 sensor connector is black, secondary O2 sensor connector is gray.

OEM Downpipe Removal Step 1: Separate downpipe from main exhaust system Remove the two nuts securing the main system to the downpipe. (15mm deep well socket). Step 2: Remove Primary O2 Sensor Remove the primary O2 sensor from the upper end of the downpipe (22mm wrench). This allows extra clearance for removing nuts in the next step. Retain the O2 sensor for use in your Pfadt downpipe. PHOTO of O2 SENSOR HERE: Step 3: Remove Downpipe Bracket Bolts Working from the top, remove the bolt that holds the downpipe to the engine block (13mm socket). Working from under the car, remove the lower bracket assembly near the outlet flange of the OEM downpipe. This is two pieces and holds the lower end of the downpipe to the engine oil pan casting (13mm socket).

Step 4: Separate downpipe from turbo outlet flange Remove the 4 nuts securing the downpipe to the outlet flange. A combination of 15mm deep socket on a 3/8” ratchet and 15mm ratcheting wrench will make the job easiest.

Step 5: Remove downpipe from vehicle The downpipe should be loose now. Slide the upper flange off of the mounting studs and the lower studs out of the mating flange. The assembly can now be removed through by lifting it up past the top of the engine.

Step 6: Remove O2 Sensor Remove the secondary O2 sensor from the factory downpipe (22mm wrench). Retain the O2 sensor for use in your Pfadt downpipe.

Pfadt Downpipe Installation Procedure Step 1: Install Secondary O2 Sensor Apply a thin coat of sensor safe anti-seize to the threads on all O2 sensors. Install the secondary sensor into the downpipe (grey connector). Use the 22mm wrench and torque to 31ft-lb. Step 2: Place Downpipe in Vehicle Coat the turbo outlet flange studs with a light layer of anti-seize. Install the provided new gasket into the upper flange on the downpipe. The gasket will protrude out from the face. Install the downpipe in the vehicle by feeding it through from the top of the engine area. Use care to not damage the O2 sensor that you have already installed. Slip the upper flange over the mounting studs. Reusing the OE 15mm hex flange nuts, start at least one nut to retain the pipe in place. Install the bolt through the new downpipe mounting bracket. This is now best reached from underneath the vehicle. Do not tighten it yet.

Step 3: Connect Downpipe to Main Exhaust Place the OE gasket on the studs of the Pfadt Downpipe and assemble it to the rear section of the exhaust. Re-use the OE (15mm hex) nuts for this joint. Start both nuts on the downpipe studs to hold the system together.

Step 4: Tighten and Torque All Fasteners Start by torqueing the upper flange bolts to the turbo outlet housing (15mm deep socket). The torque spec on those nuts is 32 ft-lb. Next, torque the mounting bracket bolt to the block (13mm socket). Torque spec on that bolt is 18 ft-lb. Finally, torque the outlet flange of the downpipe to the full exhaust system (15mm deep socket). The torque spec on those nuts is 32 ft-lb. Step 5: Final Assembly Install the Primary O2 sensor into the upper port on the Pfadt downpipe. ). Use the 22mm wrench and torque to 31ft-lb. Reconnect the sensor to the engine wiring harness. Be aure that the sensor wiring will not contact and hot components. Tie off if necessary. Re-connect the Secondary O2 sensor wiring to the main engine harness. Re-install the Heat Shield and torque the bolts to 89 in-lb. Re-install the battery cable. Step 6: Check for Leaks Double check that all fasteners have been tightened, wiring is not dangling on the any exhaust components, spilled oil is wiped off , and that there is adequate clearance between the exhaust and any other components. Start the car and check for exhaust leaks, oil leaks, or coolant leaks. Congratulations, you have successfully installed your new Pfadt downpipe. and are now ready to reap the rewards of a carefully engineered exhaust system!
