BY THE NUMBERS• Jackson started the season in the leadoff position before missing the third week of the season. From week four to week 10, Jackson shifted to the second spot and settled in nice - being known for her bunt skills. Since the TTU series, she has shifted back to the leadoff position.• On the year, Jackson has executed a bunt or sac bunt 12 times. She has two sac bunts, five bunts in the leadoff position of an inning that she has reached base on and five bunts that she has advanced the runner and/or reached base on.• Defensively, Jackson shows off her speed in center making catches throughout the outfield to eliminate opposing team runners from getting on and has turned one double play.
(HORN)BUCKLE UP• Junior Cheyenne Hornbuckle has become a breakout performer for Kansas this season. After starting the season as a pinch hitter, she has worked her way into the starting lineup with a .306 average to become the starting second baseman.• Hornbuckle has sparked multiple comebacks and come up with clutch hits for the Jayhawks when necessary.• She has 19 hits this season including three doubles and has scored seven runs for the Jayhawks while bringing in four. She maintains a .434 on-base percentage to become a constant in the KU lineup.• Against KC, she batted .600 with six hits, two runs scored and one RBI.
GAYRE GREATNESS• Shelby Gayre is striving towards the same success as a redshirt junior that she saw in the shortened 2020 season. Through 33 games, Gayre is batting .216 with a .511 slugging percentage. She has 19 hits - including eight home runs - and has 22 RBIs• At the Wooo Pig Classic, Gayre batted .333 with one home run, one double and one run scored. She also tallied four RBIs. Against Arkansas on March 24, Gayre tallied two runs scored and a solo home run.• Gayre was able to have a banner 2020 season, despite it being cut short. Not only did Gayre lead the team with a .393 average, she also led the team with 11 home runs, 24 RBIs and 13 walks. She was named a second-team All-American by Softball America.
AMAZING ANDERSON• Sophomore Ashlyn Anderson has made herself a staple on the hot corner starting 42 games at third.• She is currently batting .269 with 32 hits including five double and nine home runs. She has 24 RBIs and has scored 29 runs.• Her ninth home run of the season came against Baylor on April 30 in the top of the seventh inning and was KU's only run scored that game.
ROUNDING OUT THE STARTERS• Macy Omli has started 44 games in left field for KU. She is batting .250 with 26 hits, 12 runs scored and 11 RBI.• Since Sydnee Ramsey's injury, Omli has bumped up to the second spot in the lineup. She leads the team with nine sac bunts.• Madison Hirsch, refered to as Coco amongst the team, is seventh among starters with a .228 average.• As only a sophomore, Hirsch has started 40 games this season as either the designated player or at third base. She has 26 hits - including four home runs and three doubles - with 15 RBIs and 22 runs scored. She has also stolen five bases.• Tarin Travieso enters the final-home weekend of her senior season batting .215 with 26 hits - including three home runs. She has brought in 19 runners and scored 14 runs and is the only play to have played in every game this season.• Haleigh Harper rounds out the starters making 30 starts this season after taking over as the starting shortstop during the Texas Tech series. She has 10 hits - including two home runs - and has scored 16 runs this season.
FROM THE CIRCLE• Six Jayhawks, have appeared in the circle this season pitching a minimum of 16 innings. Combined, the six have tallied 197 strikeouts against opponents.• Kasey Hamilton has clocked the most innings pitched with 77.1. She has posted a 5-9 record on the season with 57 strikeouts. She threw her first complete game against Arkansas and struck out four batters. She also had a complete-game performance against OSU with six strikeouts and has two saves on the season. Her first career shutout came against Texas Tech on April 17. She struck out a career-high nine batters against Wichita State.• Tatum Goff has been had a consistent pressence in the circle all season. She pitched a career-high 11 strikeouts against Central Arkansas before topping that with 13 strikeouts against UTSA. She maintains a 4.08 ERA with a 7-4 record.• Lexy Mills and Hailey Reed round out the top corps with 38 and 67.2 innings pitched, respectively. Mills holds a 1-2 record with 36 strikeouts while Reed is 7-6 with 31 strikeouts.• Savanna DesRochers and Hannah Todd complete the pitching staff with nine and 16 strikeouts, respectively. DesRochers is 2-1 on the season and Todd has two saves.
ROUNDING OUT THE TEAM• Sophia Buzard made her first collegiate start against Kansas City. In the game, Buzard tallied her first collegiate hit with a three-run homer out of right field. This season, Buzard has scored four runs and brought in seven RBIs for the Jayhawks.• Angela Price clocked her first hit in the Crimson and Blue against Kansas City as well with a RBI single up the middle. On the season Price has seven runs scored.• Kasey Hamilton and Savanna DesRochers are two pitchers that have appeared at the plate this season. In Hamilton's first at-bat, she hit a two-run homer against Drake. DesRochers was a pinch hitter at the Wooo Pig Classic. Both also saw time at the plate against Baylor.• Jordan Richards has appeared in 13 games this season and is batting .192. She has five hits - including two doubles - with three RBIs and two runs scored.• Freshman Lyric Moore has five hits this season, including three doubles. She clocked a two-RBI double in the second game at Baylor and her first-collegiate home run in the series finale at Baylor on May 2. On the season, she has five runs scored and five RBIs.• Two other Jayhawk players have appeared at the plate at least four time this season including: Miranda Rodriguez and Kaitlyn Gee. Rodriguez has scored two runs and Gee has one hit.• Peyton Renzi has also seen time in 26 games as either a pinch hitter or pinch runner and has scored 10 runs.
