SERIES HISTORY WITH OHIO STATE• The Wolverines trail the all-time series 13-11-2 but have not lost a game to the Buckeyes since the 2016 campaign.• U-M is 4-1-0 in the last five meetings with the Buckeyes going 1-0-1 against Ohio State in the 2020-21 shortened season.
SENIORS IN THE RECORD BOOK• Senior Marc Ybarra will leave his mark on the Michigan men’s soccer program in many ways, but he is officially the all-time leader in games played (88) and games started (87) in his five year career as a Wolverine.• Ybarra also ranks second in U-M history with 24 career assists and needs just four to tie current record holder Adam Bruh.• Senior Umar Farouk Osman ranks third all-time with 84 games played and will likely pass Latif Alashe, who played 85 career games for the second spot behind Ybarra.• Osman also ties for sixth all-time with Michael Holody, making 73 career starts as a Wolverine.
RODRIGUEZ STEPS UP AGAINST RUTGERS• Junior Inaki Rodriguez had an important outing against Rutgers, tallying two assists in the 2-1 victory for the Maize and Blue.• Rodriguez had a quick one-touch pass in which he threaded the ball up and through two Scarlet Knight defenders for Uriel Zeitz to score his first career goal.• The junior then got the ball from Marc Ybarra and took it to the endline in the second half before placing a pass to Umar Farouk Osman to head the ball down and in for what would be the game-winning goal.
ZEITZ NETS FIRST GOAL AS A WOLVERINE• Junior transfer Uriel Zeitz has been knocking at the door for a goal all season and he finally found the back of the net for the first time against Rutgers.• Zeitz earned his first start since making his way back from injury against RU and took his chance in the 38th minute of the match.• The Wolverines stripped the ball from Rutgers at midfield and quickly struck offensively as Kevin Buca passed the ball over to Inaki Rodriguez. Rodriguez threaded a pass through two defenders as Zeitz made his run between them and took a shot into the opposite corner of the net for the goal.
SENIOR PROFILES• Joel Harrison: Has appeared in 37 career matches with 27 starts and has been a staple on the Wolverines backline for five seasons.• Mohammed Zakyi: Appeared in 45 career matches with 28 starts, scoring 11 goals and adding eight assists for 30 total points• Umar Farouk Osman: Has seen action in 84 career matches with 74 starts as he transferred to left back a season ago. For his efforts he was a Second Team All-Big Ten honoree and on the All-Big Ten Freshman Team• Austin Swiech: Has appeared in 68 career matches with 53 starts on defense for Michigan. He has been an integral part of the Wolverine defensive unit dur-ing his career• Declan Gaffney: Has seen action in 30 career matches with 10 starts in his senior season. He tallied his first career goal and assist in his final season as a Wolverine.

SENIOR PROFILES (cont.)• Marc Ybarra: Holds the Michigan record, playing in 88 career games and mak-ing 87 career starts in his five years as a Wolverines. He is the reigning Big Ten Midfielder of the Year, a two-time All-Big Ten honoree and was a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award amongst many other accolades.• C.Y. Cheng: Appeared in one game in his final season and has been a huge part of the Wolverines reserve unit. He has been an integral part of building the culture of Michigan men’s soccer in his four seasons.
HARRISON NAMED SENIOR CLASS AWARD CANDIDATE• Graduate student Joel Harrison was named one of 30 candidates for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award. • To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focus-es on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. • Harrison returned for a fifth season with the Wolverines after being a first team All-Big Ten honoree in spring 2021. The graduate defender has appeared in 36 career games with 26 starts on the back line and is currently out due to injury.
BUCA NAMED B1G CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK• Senior Kevin Buca has found his offensive rhythm this season with a team-best nine points.• Most recently, Buca recorded the first hat trick for Michigan since Sept. 4, 2015 when Francis Atuahene scored three goals against West Virginia.• Buca got the Wolverines going against the Wildcats with a goal just two min-utes into the match before recording his second goal of the day in the 26th minute to send Michigan into the locker room with a 2-0 lead over the Wildcats.• The senior midfielder capped off the hat trick in the 52nd minute of the match to elevate Michigan to a 3-1 victory over Northwestern and earn him Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors with Penn State’s Peter Mangione.• Buca currently ties for third in the Big Ten with four goals.
MAKING HISTORY• Michigan’s contest against Northwestern marked a piece of history in men’s soccer as it was the first-ever Power 5 men’s soccer contest that featured two Black head coaches.• Chaka Daley and Northwestern first-year head coach Russell Payne have competed against each other before but not with both of them as head coach-es at Power 5 universities.
MICHIGAN PICKED THIRD IN B1G PRESEASON POLL• Michigan was picked to finish third in the conference’s preseason poll, selected by B1G coaches. • U-M trailed Indiana and Penn State, a season after advancing to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals and making an NCAA Third Round appearance in 2019.
