SPECIAL GUESTS
Joe ZolperJoe ZolperJoe Zolper is the lead mechanic on MotorTrend
TV’s Garage Squad, but he’s also a pretty serious Mopar guy. When Joe isn’t filming there’s a pretty good chance you’ll find him racing or wrenching on his blown alcohol ’69 Daytona Pro Mod or his blown alcohol ’68 GTX. Growing up on his grandfather’s farm, Joe has always been hands on with anything mechanical. Joe opened his own shop, Prison City Choppers & Customs, at 23 and has built numerous award-winning vehicles. Joe likes to give back and that’s a big part of why Garage Squad is so important to him, but he also speaks at high schools and teaches the occasional shop class.
Gordon DavisGordon DavisGordon Davis is here as part of a Forward Look
celebration. Gordon will be in Building R (near Gate 2) as part of the Forward Look Network’s annual gathering at Carlisle along with about 50 cars from the Forward look era. Gordon was hired by Director of Design, Virgil Exner, at the beginning of the Forward Look era. He contrib-uted to the turbine concept designs and Virgil Exner’s XNR, which influenced the early ’60s vehicle lineup. He later designed the “jewelry” for the 1959 DeSoto. After his time with Chrysler, Gordon moved on to American Motors and also designed motorcycle and auto accessories, construction equipment and RVs.
Diran YazejianDiran YazejianDiran Yazejian is also part of the Forward Look
Network’s annual gathering at Carlisle. Diran will also be around Building R. Diran’s love of cars began as a child, and after serving in the U.S. Army, he attended Art Center School (now Art Center College of Design). He was hired by Chrysler upon gradua-tion where he went to work in the Chrysler-DeSoto Exterior Studio. He transferred to Dodge in 1962 and was later part of the team that designed the ’68 Charger. Outside of the studio, Diran can be found in his garage doing restorations on his own Mopars.
Dave ReaDave ReaDave Rea will be signing autographs, meeting
fans, and participating in the Restorers’ Round-table seminar. He owns DB Restorations, LLC, a Mopar-only restoration shop in Cottage Grove, Oregon that specializes in 1968 to 1972 Mopar muscle cars and trucks. He is a self-taught automotive restoration technician with more than 30 years of experience. He was featured on five seasons of a popular Mopar restoration television show on MotorTrendTV which helped him fine tune his skills in the field. See schedule for times and locations to meet Dave.
The RamchargersThe RamchargersIn 1959 a group of engineers from Chrysler
Corporation began to participate in the nation’s new craze, “drag racing.” They started with a 1949 Plymouth business coupe and by the 1960 race season named themselves Ramcharg-ers after the “long-horn” intake manifold that powered the early Chrysler 300 series. In 1963 the Ramchargers became nationally famous with two factory-sponsored team cars, each using an automatic transmission. They were pioneers on the track and in the office and truly are legends in the Mopar world.
The Golden CommandosThe Golden CommandosThe Golden Commandos are a group of former
Chrysler Corporation employees composed of engineers, technicians and mechanics that began racing under the Plymouth banner in 1962. They were the first to break into the 11s and were very successful on the racing circuit. We’re honored that the Golden Commandos have chosen to make the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals an annual stop on their schedule. They love meeting their fans and talking about the glory days of racing. They will be available to sign autographs and meet with fans all weekend.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
Collectable DiecastCollectable DiecastThis year’s diecast is truly unique because
it’s based on a one-of-a-kind ’71 Charger. We’re ticking several boxes this year: Old Skool Paint, Celebrate ’71, the first time we’ve offered a ’71 Charger and the first time we’ve replicated one of our featured vehicles (Old Skool Paint Display in Building T). Because the graphics are complex enough in full scale, replicating them in 1:64 scale created some challenges for the folks at M2. Tests were done and prototypes were made until they were able to get it spot on. These collect-ibles cost $15 each, limit six per person. Check at The Carlisle Store in Building T for availability.

Currently, three different classes are offered: Rear Wheel Drive, Truck/Van/SUV and Front Wheel Drive/All Wheel Drive. TRIBUTE TO MR. NORM
The Mopar family lost one of their favorite sons earlier this year, as the man we all know as “Mr. Norm” left us at 87 years young. He may have been an octogenarian, but irrespec-tive of his age, he possessed a passion for life that would not be denied. Never one to keep a low profile, he always enjoyed attending the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals and sharing his unbridled passion with Pentastar faithful.
A man who was not afraid the take the path less traveled, he was one of the few who saw performance and profession-
al racing as the way to build Mr. Norm’s Grand Spaulding Dodge, his fledgling automobile dealership, when it opened in 1963. As a young man himself, he recognized something the majority of his peers did not. That was the emerging baby boom generation, and the incredible impact it would have on the automobile industry. Combining his acumen for sales and marketing, he captured the hearts and minds of the youth market that was shunned by the vast majority of his dealer peers. Mr. Norm blazed a trail of his own choosing and in so doing,
quickly earned the respect of the power brokers in Detroit who took notice of his success and encouraged it.
He always kept a keen eye on what the competition offered, and when the 1967 Dart debuted with nothing more potent that a 273, Mr. Norm took matters into his own hands. Taking one of the first Darts to arrive at the dealership in the fall of 1966, he had his team install a 383 four barrel and matching the powertrain from a B-Body into the little A-Body. This became the prototype for what became the Mr. Norm’s GSS

Dart, the pocket rocket that put fear into the hearts of Brand X owners everywhere. Never one to rest on his laurels, for 1968 he stuffed a 375 horsepower 440 Magnum into the Dart and raised the bar even higher.
In addition to his exploits selling new high performance Dodges, Mr. Norm teamed up with Gary Dyer in 1965 at the beginning of the funny car era to field nitro burning super-charged Hemi powered cars that were feared by competitors from coast to coast. Whether it was his early altered wheel base Coronets or the later flip top Super Charger funny cars that were the scourge of the Coca Cola Funny Car Cavalcade, Mr. Norm was always known as a tough competitor. He raced to win at the track on the weekends, and during the week he applied the same determi-nation when it came to creating
and selling high perfor-mance cars to enthusiasts.
In recent years, Mr. Norm applied talents to late model Challengers, Chargers and Rams. Performance and appearance were always high on his list, and each of the new vehicles he created embodied his time tested approach.
Yes, his accomplishments are the things of legends, but Mr. Norm could be humble and often credited his employees and team members as instru-mental in the success he achieved. Whether at the dealer-ship or on the track, he was a force to be reckoned with, and
was well known as a man not to be trifled with. His competitors in both arenas knew this well, and because of it, treated him with respect and even admiration. The kid who grew up on the mean streets of Chicago never forgot where he came from, or how he achieved the success he is remembered for. Mr. Norm set a great example and left us an incredible legacy of perfor-mance that we will all continue to enjoy for years to come.

There’s just something about an unrestored Mopar, no matter how rough, that draws us to it. About 20 years ago there was a really rough AAR ’Cuda at Fall Carlisle along the back fence that didn’t have one usable piece of sheetmetal on it. But it drew crowds all weekend and on Monday all that remained was a 6 ft. by 18 ft. ring of dead grass (and maybe a few chunks of rust). We’ve done Barn Find displays before and this is the first indoor display for our beloved unrestored Superbirds!

Each car in the Mopar Survivors tent has its own story but one thing they all have in common is that they are AT LEAST 85% original and 25 years old or older. These cars are not “restored to original.” Rather, they still retain a minimum of 85% of the parts and finishes that were installed at the factory. That means original paint, interior and drivetrain.
Minor repairs and maintenance are acceptable, but pretty much everything else needs to be as it came off of the assembly line. Survivors aren’t always perfect, but that’s part of what makes them so cool. They were born with some

orange peel and maybe even a dirt nib or two. And those chips and scratches were earned along the way.
The Mopar Survivors tent is located across from Guest Services and is home to 41 unrestored, original Mopars. They are a great reference for those restoring a car or it’s great just to hear each car’s story. Pictured here are the cars that have never been displayed in the Survivor tent at Carlisle. Stop by and see this incredi-ble display of original Mopars and while you’re there, please thank Mel Major for putting this together for 25 years!

ROCKAUTORockAuto.com is an auto
parts retailer founded in 1999 by automotive engineers with two goals: Liberate informa-tion hidden behind the auto parts store counter (by listing all available parts, not just what one store stocks or one counter-person knows), and make auto parts affordable so vehicles of all ages can be kept reliable and fun to drive.
Today, RockAuto.com ships thousands of parts, from hundreds of manufacturers, to millions of customers all over the world. From fluids and filters for your daily driver, to brakes and ball joints for your classic, to traditionally “dealer only” parts like OE style wheels and switches, RockAuto.com has All The Parts Your Car Will Ever Need at reliably low prices.
Visit RockAuto.com to order auto parts online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and have them conveniently delivered to your door.
