Furthermore, our Parks & Recreation team continues to push the envelope of success by offering remarkable special events and programs each year. Our traditional festivals are suit-able for all ages and provide a wealth of entertainment and fun for all.

I invite you to review this guide and explore all that Winter Springs has to offer for family fun!

Mayor Charles Lacey

Welcome to the 2020 Spring-Summer edition of the City of Winter Springs’ biannual Family Fun Guide. This guide features all the exceptional amenities and fun the Winter Springs Parks & Recreation Department offers.

I’m proud that we live in a beautiful city with first-rate parks and reputable community events. Our very own Central Winds Park has been nominat-ed more than three times in a row for the “Best City Park” Ovations Award and is a two-time re-cipient of the “Fields of Excellence” Award for its many fantastic amenities and well-maintained landscape of multipurpose fields and diamonds.

In addition to our phenomenal city parks, the City of Winter Springs contains many beautiful nature trails, two splash playgrounds, and our Dog Park

Community Spotlight

The Winter Springs Senior Center is a lively gathering place for members of our community ages 55 and up. While city staff runs the day-to-day operations, the Winter Springs Senior Association manages the classes, activities, and pro-grams provided to members. This board consists of eight, selfless ladies who serve as volunteers and spend count-less hours behind the scenes preparing bingo packets, balancing budgets, pur-chasing supplies, assisting in the kitch-en, and creating a monthly newsletter for members.

“The Senior Center offers a place for se-niors to meet and socialize in a pleasant and welcoming environment. They can participate in activities (which we have many) or spend time and make new friends. The center is staffed with pro-fessional and caring people, along with many volunteers that make our center great. I feel that by volunteering, we are helping our community serve the se-

niors of Winter Springs and surrounding communities,” says Association Presi-dent Barbara Casano.

The Association organizes two fund-raising events each year that invite non-members to the Senior Center for some community fun. The first event is the annual Pancake Breakfast that of-fers unlimited pancakes for only $6 in April, and the second is the Craft and Vendor Fair, which displays local arts and crafts for shoppers to browse and purchase in October.

These ladies have a valuable perspec-tive of the Senior Center and the needs of the members because, in addition to volunteering their time, they’re also members themselves. Each quarter, the Association hosts meetings where members can learn about current proj-ects, provide feedback, and present new ideas to better the future of our Winter Springs Senior Center.

Park HighlightsLast year, we cut the ribbon and opened two new playgrounds, Field of Dreams Playground at Central Winds Park and Mount Trotwood at Trotwood Park. These playgrounds were updated as part of our Perk Up Parks Initiative.

This spring, we’re excited to announce the grand opening of our third play-ground, Torcaso Cove Playground at Tor-caso Park.

TORCASO COVE PLAYGROUND

Ahoy! Opening this spring at Torcaso Park is Torcaso Cove Playground. This ocean-themed playground will be for a whale of a good time featuring beach houses with obstacles and slides, a lighthouse overlooking area, sea crea-tures such as an octopus and whale, and more!

Beat the heat at the Winter Springs Splash Playgrounds! Located at Tor-caso & Trotwood Parks, the Splash Playgrounds are open each year from April to October and operated Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. (weather permitted).

Field trips are welcome to visit the Splash Playground on Thursdays & require the reservation of a pavilion.
