We specialise in delivering internationally recognised degrees in architecture, landscape architecture, planning, urban design, property and construction management.
Students joining our school benefit from our bigger- picture view of the world. Our curriculum focuses on the built environment as a whole, not just its individual components. We specialise in three particular streams of the discipline: architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design.
To become a practising architect, students must complete a minimum five years’ study: a three-year undergraduate degree in architectural design, followed by a two-year master degree.
The University of Adelaide is the only institution in South Australia to offer a double degree pathway at master level in architecture. Completing the double
master degree requires only one extra year of study, and qualifies students in two disciplines, thereby enhancing their career prospects.
Features of our schoolWe have invested in three industry professors. Each of whom is an award-winning professional in their own right. They bring a high degree of inspiration and reality to their teaching.
Our internship program provides master degree students with professional work placements with Australian or overseas businesses and professional practices.
Students have 24-hour access to our computer-aided architectural design (CAAD) studio and state-of-the-art model-making laboratory, one of the best equipped architectural design labs at any Australian university.
ScholarshipsOur students have access to industry sponsored awards and scholarships in recognition of outstanding work.

MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE BY COURSEWORK
The Master of Architecture degree provides specialist advanced design education for entry into the contemporary architectural profession. A sequence of core design studios, each with a distinct focus, encompassing material cultures, urban land- scapes, and complex buildings, forms the heart of the program. Courses in professional practice, construction technologies, as well as history and theory studies supplement the studios.
Travelling studios and professional internships are provided as electives, while linkages to allied professions in the built environment, including landscape architecture, urban design and planning are embedded in the curriculum.
The degree culminates in a research-led final design project, conducted in small studio groups under close supervision by academic staff. This allows students to develop and explore their own distinctive interests and possible career directions.

High quality urban design is a very important aspect of city development as it creates the places we all experience.
Urban design focuses on the space between buildings, improving on the context the buildings provide to make spaces that are attractive, usable, safe, enhance community and draw people to them. • streets and circulation spaces
• public squares and meeting places
• pedestrian areas
• semi private space around buildings.
Within the broad context of urban development and planning, the Master of Planning (Urban Design) prepares graduates to understand how to design better places and spaces.

Develop a deeper understanding of the principles and practice of environmental policy, planning and governance. Responding effectively to environmental problems involves far more than the application of scientific knowledge, or the ‘top-down’ regulation of people and their environments.
Government policies must be negotiated with, and implemented through, diverse private-sector agents and a differentiated civil society. Managing environmental problems therefore entails a new set of approaches, including government, public-private partnerships, economic tools and incentives, democratic decentralisation and risk management.
The degree addresses how the signature environmental issues of our time are to be managed; now and into the future.
It is targeted at three distinct audiences:
• recent graduates seeking a career in environmental management
• mid-career professionals looking to update their knowledge in the fast-changing domain of environmental governance and management
• students who would like to undertake further research on these topics.
Students complete the core course Environmental Planning and Governance, and an elective chosen from a select list, such as: Environmental Impact Assessment or Community Engagement, as an example.
Career opportunitiesGraduates of the degree will be well equipped to take up senior policy roles in government and a variety of roles in environmental management for government agencies, industry and the not-for-profit sector.

Develop a deeper understanding of the principles and practice of environmental policy, planning and governance. Responding effectively to environmental problems involves far more than the application of scientific knowledge, or the ‘top-down’ regulation of people and their environments.
Responding to contemporary environmental problems in the complex, multi-jurisdictional domain of environmental management, government policies must be negotiated with, and implemented through, diverse private sector agents and a differentiated civil society. Managing environmental problems therefore entails a new set of approaches, including government, public-private partnerships, economic tools and incentives, democratic decentralisation and risk management.
The program addresses how the key environmental issues of our time - global warming, water shortages, deforestation and the like, are to be managed now and into the future.
Students have the option of a research or coursework specialisation depending on their personal and professional goals. In both specialisations, students complete core courses including Research Design and Methods and Environmental Planning and Governance. A range of elective courses are also available, followed by a research project.

Our postgraduate degrees allow students to build upon their knowledge and explore economic theory and practice. Economics is a global language, recognised worldwide; wherever students travel, their knowledge and skills will be immediately relevant.
Students can tailor their studies to suit their backgrounds, interests and career aspirations. They have many options available to them, such as alternative specialisations, opportunities to fast-track studies, and pathways to PhD studies.
Students may also attend key events such as the Fisher Lecture in public policy, and regularly-hosted seminars that cover a wide range of economics and cross-discip- linary topics from game theory to trade liberalisation.
Our presenters are a diverse mix of international and national experts who share their research and expertise.
As a female economics student you can also join our Women in Economics Program, a career development program and support network that hosts a series of events every year.

In today’s highly technical environment, a degree in mathematical sciences teaches students the universal language required to describe, model and understand the world around them.
At the University of Adelaide, mathematical sciences courses provide valuable training in rigour, logical thinking and mathematical sciences knowledge. Graduates are highly regarded for their creativity, problem-solving and research skills, and pursue successful careers in their chosen specialisation in a wide range of industries.
Mathematics and statistics underpin new developments and technologies in a huge variety of fields, including communications, defence, engineering, finance, health and manufacturing. Our courses develop students’ skills in analysing complex, real-world problems by encapsulating the most important factors in mathematical models, which can be studied using a variety of analytical
and computational techniques to provide new understanding. The results can, in turn, suggest new mathematical and statistical questions, which prompt further innovative discoveries.
The University’s research across the areas of applied mathematics, pure mathematics and statistics have been recognised as either ‘above’ or ‘well above’ world standard by the Australian Research Council’s 2015 Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) evaluation.
The Master of Mathematical Sciences allows students with a background in a related field to expand their knowledge in the mathematical sciences to an advanced level. Students may specialise by choosing courses in the disciplines of applied mathematics, pure mathematics, and statistics.
ScholarshipsOur students have access to industry sponsored awards and scholarships in recognition of outstanding work.

The viticulture and wine education degrees have an international reputation for excellence. The Waite campus houses state-of-the-art facilities, including its own vineyard and the Hickinbotham Roseworthy Wine Sciences Laboratory.
This degree incorporates courses in both viticulture and oenology, and qualifies graduates to work as either a viticulturist, oenologist (winemaker) or in related professions (e.g. hospitality and tourism, and the food and beverage industry).
The viticulturist typically works closely with the winemaker to achieve the desired winemaking outcome. The winemaker utilises their training in the science of winemaking (oenology) to process grapes for the production of white, red still and sparkling, and fortified wines.
Throughout the degree, there is an emphasis on the key technical methods and sensory (wine tasting) skills required for a career in viticulture and oenology. The Waite campus is home to 70% of Australia’s wine research and boasts more than 150 university researchers and co-located partners in wine and grape science, providing a stimulating and unique environment for training, exposing candidates to the latest technologies and enabling them to learn from leaders in their field.
Career opportunitiesWell-paid career opportunities exist in the grape and wine industry within Australia and beyond. Graduates will be qualified to manage a vineyard, direct and carry out vineyard operations, direct winemaking operations and manage the winery.
