About UsBoys don’t join Scouts to go to meetings. Troop 733 is an outdoor-focused, boy-led troop. The boys select the activities for the year, plan the activities, buy their own food, cook their own meals, pack their own packs, setup and teardown camp, and lead all outdoor activities and troop meetings. This provides an excellent opportunity for the boys to learn scout skills and leadership.

Our troop of about 50 scouts meets at the Danish Lutheran Church in Yorba Linda. Our troop is very active, averaging one campout per month and one high adventure outing per month.

Our highly active, well-trained troop received the “Gold” Journey to Excellence award for 2018, a sign of a very healthy troop.

High AdventureBackpackingOur troop takes an innovative approach to High Adventure. Scouts start out by completing 3 hikes (HAT I), and they receive a red shirt. They are then eligible for one-night overnight backpack trips (HAT II). Upon completion of 3 HAT II trips they receive a yellow shirt. After receiving a yellow shirt they are eligible for 2-night backpacking trips and receive a green shirt after completing 3 HAT III trips. The boys wear these shirts with pride, knowing what they achieved to earn them. They may forget pants for a January winter campout and wear PJ Bottoms all weekend, but they never forget their HAT shirts!

National High AdventureIn addition to our troop High Adventure program, we take scouts 14 years and older to one of the four national BSA High Adventure locations every year • Philmont: Backpacking• Northern Tier: canoeing or

dog-mushing (winter)• Florida Sea Base: aquatics• Summit Bechtel: rafting and

kayaking

Climbing and RaftingWe take at least one rafting trip and one climbing trip per year.

AdvancementOur troop focuses on what scouts do: camping, canoeing, rafting, climbing, and leading themselves to build strong character and good citizens. We allow the boys to advance at their own pace and do not pressure them. We have had incredible success with this approach, awarding 62 Eagle Scouts. Furthermore, most Eagle Scouts stay in our troop until their 18th birthday, providing leadership to the younger scouts.

Troop Traditions• In ‘N Out on the way to and from

almost every campout• We call our troop a Family and expect

brotherhood among scouts• Joshua Tree National Park, Jerkwater

Canoe Trip (Colorado River), and Laser Tag are favorite annual outings
