Kumu Hoku introduces her students to new hula moves as part of her class. They are learning how to dance to the classic Hawaiian mele, Ulupalakua.
Kumu Hoku also takes pride in teaching sewing
class. One of the things the students learned was how
to do an overstitch.

FIELD TRIPS (VIRTUAL/IN-PERSON)
In celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, students took a virtual field trip to the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tennessee. They learned about the
history behind the civil rights movement and why we celebrate MLK day.

STAFF TRAININGS
We had the privilege to participate in a Disaster Preparedness training presented by the 4H Program. The curriculum will be taught by Kumu Hoku
to help our students know how to respond to various emergency situations.
It’s always important our ASAS staff are trained in the policies and procedures for COVID-19. We conduct regular refresher trainings to
ensure proper protocols are being followed, in order to keep our staff and students safe and healthy.
2020-21 MONTHLY HIGHLIGHTS
ASAS staff attended a training entitled ‘Supporting Micronesian Communities’ provided by Paul Hadik, President/CEO of Pacific Resources for Education and Learning. Staff learned how to better understand how to help
Micronesian families in our communities.
Carol Miyasato of Body and Brain Yoga Tai Chi, also taught ASAS staff how we can use Tai Chi to get our students engaged and active.
