COLUMBUS CALLS: After Clevealnd’s 5-1 home loss to Belleville on Friday, the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets recalled C Ryan MacInnis from the Monsters. DILLON’S DOMINATING: Monsters D Dillon Simpson has three points (1-2-3) in three appearances vs. Belleville this season. STEVE’S SUCCESS: Monsters D Steve Johnson completed a 25-game pro tryout (PTO) contract on Friday and immediately went on to ink an AHL contract with the Monsters for the remainder of the 2019-20 AHL season. LEADING THE CHARGE: Monsters D Adam Clendening leads Cleveland in scoring this season and currently ranks in the AHL’s top-ten among blue-liners in points (38, 4th), assists (31, 5th), power-play assists (14, T6th), shots on goal (129, T7th) and minor penalties (28, T1st) so far this year. PILING UP THE PIM’S: Cleveland RW Bryan Moore is currently in the midst of a four-game penalty minute streak (24), the league’s longest such active streak.

DEADLINE DEAL: On Monday, the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets traded Cleveland’s eighth-leading scorer, LW Markus Hannikainen, to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft choice. Hannikainen spent parts of four seasons with the Monsters from 2015-18 and 2019-20 and helped the club claim the 2016 Calder Cup as AHL Playoff Champions.

BIO: Originally selected by the St. Louis Blues in the seventh round (113th overall) of the 1976 NHL Entry Draft, Mike Eaves logged 324 NHL appearances spanning eight seasons with the Minnesota North Stars and Calgary Flames from 1979-86 following a spectacular collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin from 1974-78. The Badgers’ first-ever All American, Eaves captained Wisconsin to the 1977 National Championship.
In 34 seasons in the coaching ranks, Eaves has patrolled the bench in the NHL (Assistant Coach with Calgary from 1985-86, Assistant Coach with Philadelphia from 1988-90 and in 1993-94, Assistant Coach with Pittsburgh from 1997-00), the AHL (Head Coach with Hershey from 1990-93), Finland’s Liiga (Head Coach with HIFK Helsinki in 1996-97), the USHL (Head Coach of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program in 2000-01) and the collegiate ranks (Head Coach with the U. of Wisconsin from 2002-16, Head Coach at St. Olaf College from 2016-19). Steve McCarthy, Assistant Coach A former first-round selection by the Chicago Blackhawks (23rd overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Trail, British Columbia native Steve McCarthy enters his fourth season in professional coaching with the Monsters in 2019-20. A member of the Monsters’ 2016 Calder Cup Championship team, McCarthy logged 302 career NHL appearances as a defenseman for the Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks and Atlanta Thrashers during a professional playing career that spanned 16 seasons from 2000-2016 and also featured stops in the AHL, KHL and ECHL, along with stints in the top Finnish and Swiss leagues.
Trent Vogelhuber, Assistant Coach Vogelhuber, 31, is a Dublin, Ohio, native and was the first player from the Columbus area drafted by the Blue Jackets, selected in the seventh round at the 2007 NHL Draft. He played six seasons as a pro, registering 28 goals and 45 assists for 73 points with 191 penalty minutes in 267 career AHL games with the Springfield Falcons, Lake Erie Monsters and San Antonio Rampage. Vogelhuber spent four seasons (2012-16) in the Blue Jackets organization and was a member of the Monsters’ Calder Cup championship team in 2016.
