Introduction

This is an enhanced version of the social media strategy template I provided along with the 31 Days to Start an Online Business series. I encourage you to first decide which social networks you’d like your business to be active on and create an individual strategy for each of them.

I encourage you to print separate copies of this guide, as your strategy will vary from one social media channel to the next. Your goals and KPIs for each of them will be very different. And hence, the content you share and the way you interact on each medium will be different as well.

I have come up with this template after several years of being active on social media and maintaining a variety of accounts for my clients. Since I’ve recently launched Clothed In Scarlet, I have a good idea of what it takes to establish a new business on a particular social media network. I trust this template will aid you in your social media marketing and will give your business the exposure it deserves.

Step 1:Set Social Media Goals

Any strategy must first begin with what your objectives or goals are. Identify what you want to accomplish through your social media presence. Ensure that each objective is SMART - Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound.

Example: Reach 500 followers in 6 months on Facebook

Step 2:Identify Key PerformanceIndicators

Key performance indicators (KPIs) are parameters that give you insight on how effective your social media strategy is. They will help you verify if your social media marketing efforts are bearing results, so you can alter it accordingly.

KPIs typically include follower interaction, click through rates, and overall engagement on your social media profile.

Step 3:Plan Content, Activities and Tools

Plan the content you are going to share on social media – images, status updates, links to articles/products, etc. and the particular time each day when it will be published. You can use the social media planner given along with this template for this purpose.

Plan activities to enhance user interaction on your social media profile. Sample activities include – attending and conducting Twitter parties, conducting contests, interacting with other successful businesses in your niche, etc. We have a social media strategy – monthly overview printable available along with this template that you can use.

There are tools like Hootsuite and Buffer that make social media easier to use. In the space given below, jot down which tools you will be using to schedule and manage your social media account.

Step 4:Make A List Of Social Media Influencers

Make a list of industry leaders and experts in your niche who have a strong social media presence. This will help you interact with them on a regular basis and build up a rapport.

A good way to connect with influencers is to like, comment and share their content on social media. When you have established a connection, you can boldly approach them, and get them to share your business with their followers.

Step 5:Measure and Analyze

Based on your key performance indicators, measure your results. Analyze these results and modify your social media activities to make them more effective.

For example, if a particular type of content is not yielding much results, you can improve by sharing at a different time of day or presenting it in a different format.
