UPON THIS ROCK SURPASSES $90,000,000! The Diocese of Buffalo is thrilled to announce that Upon This Rock has now surpassed $90 million in gifts from donors across Western New York! On February 18, 2016, Bishop Richard Malone unveiled a bold new initiative for the Diocese of Buffalo called Upon This Rock. Upon This Rock is a five year initiative to raise $100 million to support the ongoing ministries of the Diocese. It was announced last Monday that the Upon This Rock initiative has reached 90.9% of its goal. Many thanks to all of you who have contributed your time, talent, and treasure to allow us to strengthen essential pillars within our Church. So many organizations and individuals have already benefited from this incredible support including our own parish. On January 31st, St. Louis received its first portion of the Upon This Rock proceeds. We received $61,417.51 to further our efforts at St. Louis. As a part of this program, parishes were asked to identify a need that they would like to address in order that each parish may continue their good works. For more than 10 years we have been discussing the possibility of making the church hall handicapped accessible. This entails installing a lift to make it easier for people to access the hall, a new handicapped accessible bathroom and to enclose the handicapped ramp to make it easier for people entering the church. Thanks to the Upon This Rock program we are able to undertake this project. It is already underway. The trustees and the Finance/Restoration Committee have been meeting with an architect on design work and future implementation. Our next step is to make a presentation to the Planning Board and Preservation Board of the City of Buffalo to secure the proper permits allowing us to begin this work. Over the course of the next few years we will receive two disbursements to be used for enclosure of the handicapped ramp, lift and modifications to the church hall. The benefits of the Upon This Rock initiative are many. Not only are we supporting our own mission at St. Louis Church but also the continued mission of the Diocese and the mission of Catholic Charities. Msgr. Manganello

CATHOLIC CHARITIES Superman had foster parents. Catholic Charities gives ordinary citizens the opportunity to raise a superhero through our Foster Care and Adoption programs. Catholic Charities provides foster care for children of all ages, racial and ethnic groups in Erie County who cannot safely live in their own homes. Additionally, Catholic Charities works with birth families towards reunification, all while providing referrals for needed services and support to ensure the children can return safely to their homes. To support our mission of providing happy and safe homes for children across Erie County, please donate to our 2017 Appeal by calling 716-

218-1400 or visiting ccwny.org/donation. Multiply God’s goodness in Erie County and beyond.

PALM SUNDAY Sunday, April 9th is Palm Sunday. All children are invited to join in a procession of palms at the beginning of the 11:00 Mass that day. Children interested in participating should meet by 10:50 at the Main Street entrance of the church. Families of children participating are asked to sit near the front of the church so that children can easily join their parents after the procession.

GERMAN MASS AT ST. LOUIS The annual St. Ann’s German Mass will be held at St. Louis Church on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. Rev. Daniel Jamros, S.J. will be the celebrant. The St. Louis Church Choir, directed by Frank Scinta, will be singing. Readings and Homily are in English. Following the Mass, a reception will be hosted by St. Ann’s Community and St. Louis Parish. All are welcome to attend this celebration of our German Catholic Heritage! Ushers and Eucharistic Ministers needed!!

PARISH COUNCIL ELECTIONS Interested in becoming more involved in St. Louis Parish or know a fellow parishioner who would be? If so, consider running yourself, or nominating someone for one of the five open seats on the Parish Council. Elections are scheduled for the weekend of May 20 and 21. Elected members will serve a three year term. It is very important for the Catholic laity to be informed and involved with the functions of the parish. Please consider a run for a council seat and accept this needed and important leadership role. Nomination forms are included in this week’s bulletin and can be submitted in the collection or sacristy. For questions or more information about the Parish Council, please contact [email protected].

During the Season of Lent, our diocese will be participating in The Light is On For You program. This program creates an enhanced opportunity for people to receive the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation. In addition to Saturday afternoons, St. Louis Church will be open Thursday, March 30th, Thursday, April 6th and Wednesday, April 12th during Lent at 11:00 a.m. for the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Penance. The Light is on for you.

VOCATION THOUGHT There are many forms of blindness from which Jesus delivers us. Sometimes certain kinds of blindness prevent us from appreciating the purpose for which we have been created, and our unique place in God’s kingdom. Ask Jesus today to remove whatever is preventing you from seeing or understanding the will of the Father. If God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Father Andrew Lauricella at 847-5535.

SPIRITUAL AND FINANCIAL REPORT We warmly welcome all who come to St. Louis for Mass—tourists, visitors, parishioners and friends. Last weekend 397 people attended Mass at St. Louis Parish. Our regular collection was $7,165.00. Your generosity is deeply appreciated. It enables the preservation, ministry and maintenance of our historic church. It assists us in reaching out to the people of our neighborhood. Thank you for your support.

Please remember St. Louis Parish in your will. A bequest may be worded in this fashion - “I give to St. Louis Roman Catholic Church of Buffalo, NY the sum of __________ to be used for its general purposes.”
