Literacy Drive Statewide Children’s 2018 Participation Form Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. For questions or to order a 2018 Statewide Children’s Literacy Drive Poster, please contact Diane Hems: New York State Office of General Services, Convention & Cultural Events Tel 518.473.4756 • [email protected] The purpose of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Statewide Children’s Literacy Drive is to collect new or gently used children’s books for distribution to elementary, middle, and high schools, and to after school programs across the State. This important enrichment program began in 2004 and continues each year, thanks to the generosity of participating State agencies. The 2018 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Statewide Children’s Literacy Drive will run February 20, 2018 – April 10, 2018. Our 2018 partners in the greater Albany, Buffalo, and New York City areas include the Albany City School District, Reach Out and Read, Greater New York and Buffalo State College’s Project Flight. Agencies may consider donating to these organizations or to other similar groups in their communities. Guidelines for Participation • Submit your completed 2018 Participation Form (attached) to Diane Hems by January 22, 2018. • Inform your building manager of the Literacy Drive time line and your organization’s intent to participate. • Discuss placement of your donation box with your building manager. It should be in a well-traveled, public area. Collection Process • Monitor your donation box and retrieve donations daily. • At the conclusion of the drive, tally the number of actual books collected by your organization. • Complete Book Donation Reporting Form. Be sure to include the number of books collected and the receiving organization’s information, then send the completed form to Diane Hems. • Neatly pack the donated books into boxes or other shipping container(s) marked with your agency’s name. • Schedule your donation pick up or delivery with your selected participating organization representative. • Agencies with satellite offices or facilities may choose to have their books donated to a school, community center, or similar program in their area. 2/20-4/10 Dates 1/22 Form Deadline nyking.org • 518.474.4759 •
