This will ensure that all members will be updated will all the activities of their respective sections and chapters. Brochures of GPDR were distributed to the members. YP Chair Christian Enoval gave a tutorial on the use of Collabratec for the members’ awareness. He created a PS group and focused on the usefulness of the platform in establishing professional and technical relationships with IEEE members worldwide.

TheIEEE Week Quiz Bee, headed by the Program Committee, in partnership with Excel First Review and Training Center, Inc., organized and conducted their 5th annual competition entitled “IEEE Week 2018 Quiz Bee: Battle of the Brains 2018” and was held May 25, 2018. This competition was intended to test the knowledge of students who are in the field of Electronics Engineering (ECE), Electrical Engineering (EE) and Computer Engineering (CpE). The participants of this competition were students from different universities, making the quiz bee an inter school activity.
Even before the quiz bee started there was the feeling of anxiousness shown by the participating teams as they were seated towards their designated area at the AV-2 Room. But that anxiousness was lost when after the officers handling technical stuff started test playing the “Time’s Up” sound, the participants exploded with laughter and all the tension that’s growing in the AV perished instantly. The quiz bee proper starts with the Easy Round with marshals assigned at certain areas to handle selected teams to observe and maintain the integrity and stability of the program flow and be messengers when much more heavy questions are raised by a team from the marshal towards the host, Franz Lord Memije or the judge himself. Though Engr. Emiliano Tan is the only Judge in this competition, he proved that in the end he was exemplary in clarifying questions in the quiz bee by the teams of DLSU, FEU, and PUP and upholding truth and ethics in modifying some mechanics in the Quiz Bee. After concluding the EASY round all teams went into recess and lunch break starts, some of the participants were delighted that there was even free lunch to their benefit while the others are confidently discussing with their coaches how to handle the way of questioning of the quiz bee. After the Average, Difficult and the Elimination Round, the winners were announced with the 3rd Place coming from FEU, the 2nd Place coming from PUP- Sto.Tomas, and the 1st Place was from DLSU Manila. Certificate of Recognition was presented to the respective judges, and the awarding ceremony took place thereafter.

student branches of the Institute of Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineers (IEEE) Philippine Section: De La Salle University – Manila (DLSU), University of the Philippines – Diliman (UP), University of Santo Tomas (UST), University of the East – Caloocan (UE) and Mapúa University – Manila (MU). Non-IEEE students from different schools are also encouraged to participate in the said event.
The officers prepared the venue early and made the atmosphere relaxing for the contestants to be able to focus on their work. The contest started a bit late because some contestants did not comply with the time for registration and one contestant register in the middle of the contest. Before the contest started, a major problem appeared for some contestants not having an internet access or having a slow internet connection. The officers foresaw this problem and prepared a pocket Wi-Fi and data hotspot for the contestants to connect to the internet. As the contest started, the work of each participant was either just a bunch of shapes and pictures collided with each other but after a while, it turned into a poster that showed the IEEE Week theme. Each contestant was given the chance to explain their work and let the judge to ask some questions to enlighten them. The judges were very technical in questioning the contestants’ work and asked every symbolism in every detail they placed in the poster. All the posters were amazingly made showing excitement and interest to the theme. The contest’s result was close to each other because each of the participants deserved to win.
