Hamblen County Car Club Minutes May 21, 2019

The Hamblen County Car Club was called to order Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at the Golden Corral by President, Gene

Honeycutt. Thirty-two (32) members and guests were present. There was an update on the members who are sick before

Janice Hawkins led the group in prayer.

Mr. Honeycutt welcomed the visitors and presented a check for $400 to Amy Purkey, a representative from Kingswood

Home for Children. This $400 was raised at the cruise-in at Lowe’s last Friday night.

Melissa Kelly spoke about the Mandolin Wildflower Foundation honoring her late daughter, Kelly Crittenden.. This

memorial foundation is helping to sponsor a free Barbeque and Bluegrass Show on August 17th at Cherokee Park to raise

funds for the Daily Bread. Larry Shropshire from the Daily Bread also spoke and gave an overview of the history and

daily operations of the agency that feeds approximately 230-240 daily.

The March minutes were approved as published after a motion from Dennis Acuff, which was seconded by Don

McGinnis. Janice Hawkins gave a financial report which was accepted with a motion from Billy Seals, seconded by Ted

Kalagian.

Vice President’s Remarks: Guy Leolich told members that the weather finally cleared so we had a good turn-out for the

cruise-ins on Friday and Saturday. He said there are many, many upcoming events and there is information about all the

events on the car club web-site. Dick Valentine is still planning entertainment for the Winter Angel Expo for 2020.

Events Coordinator: Jean Malott gave members a list of upcoming car club activities. The next event is a drive-and-

dine to C. J .Papadops on Thursday, May 30.

Trailer Ads: Ted Kalagian said there are 7 empty spots on the trailer. Trailer ads sold this year totaled $1,300. There is

still a great need for volunteers to sign up to work the trailer during future cruise-ins.

Old Business: Plans for a car show on August 10 to benefit Panther Creek Park are proceeding. Various food trucks

have committed. Someone to judge the cars has been found, and there are plans to make a calendar with pictures of the

winning entries.

New Business: Gene Honeycutt asked for nominations for officers. The election will be conducted by ballot at the June

meeting.

Treasurer: Janice Hawkins was nominated by Ted Kalagian. Secretary: Judy Hopkins was nominated by Billy Seals.

Vice President: Guy Leolich was nominated by Ted Kalagian. President: Gene Honeycutt was nominated by John

Zieba. Guy Leolich was nominated by Larry Shockley.

Ticket winners: Lucky Golden Corral dinner winners were Deb Reynolds and Judy Hopkins.

Meeting adjourned after a motion by Dennis Acuff, seconded by several members. Respectfully submitted by Judy

Hopkins

The turnout so far has been really good. Starting this month, we

will be cruising from 6 till 9. We need trailer workers. There is a list

on the door to the trailer and anyone there can help you sign up for

dates. It is not fair to burden the same people to work it all the time

so please go up and see if there are any dates you can work. Bear in

mind that at the end of the Cruise-In season at our Christmas Dinner

people who work the trailer will be eligible for a drawing for a $350.00

Walmart Gift Card. Looking ahead we will be participating in the JTEC

Show at Panther Creek show on the 10th of August and the Benefit

Show for The Daily Bread on the 17th of August at Cherokee Park.

More on these events will be posted later.

We are still dealing with lots of sickness in our club. Elmer is

still showing signs of improvement. He was able to come to one

cruise-in during May and has even driven a car since last report.

Although the trip in the car was short, he did very well. He and

Theresa would welcome all visitors. Dixie Beede is still recovering at

home from some very serious surgery. Betty Leolich has had some

very good reports during doctor visits during May. Ray Campbell

unfortunately passed away the first of this month. Please keep Jane

and the rest of the family in your thoughts and prayers. Ted has

started his treatments and is doing very well with them. Please keep

these and all our members who have had family issues in your

thoughts and prayers.

Nominees were made during our May meeting for our upcoming

year’s officers. They are as follows: President; Guy Leolich and Gene

Honeycutt; Vice President; Guy Leolich; Secretary; Judy Hopkins;

Treasurer; Janet Hawkins. Ballots will be handed out to each member

who attends the June meeting for voting on your new officers. That

gives everyone a chance to cast their vote. They will be tabulated,

and the new officers will be named.

FUN RUN UPDATE:

Fun Run was at Amis Mill on May 9th, this is a really awesome historic place.

The food was delicious !!!

Lots of good friends eating it up… now I am not sure if you all

know this but when you dine with Tom Brace…. He always is

the last one served. It really does not matter when he places

his order… first, second, last… he will be the last one served.

It is now game on to see if possible he is the first !!!!!!!
