u DUKE HITTERSIn addition to outside hitters Cadie Bates and Payton Schwantz,
Duke has received solid efforts from its rightside hitters. Sopho-
more Samantha Amos -- a 2016 All-ACC Freshman Team pick
-- has accrued 222 kills on .244 hitting. Amos has eight matches of
10-plus kills to her credit this season, including a career-high 18-kill
performance Oct. 22 at Virginia Tech. Sophomore Natalie Schil-
ling was also a key contributor on the rightside before suffering
a season-ending injury. Junior Jessi Bartholomew has filled that
spot, recording eight-straight matches of 10 or more kills from Oct.
15 - Nov. 8.
u BALANCED OFFENSESetters Emma Paradiso and Sarah Nelson have run Duke’s 6-2
system this season. Those two have helped Duke rank fourth in the
ACC in assists per set (12.76) and fifth in kills per set (13.49). Duke
is the only school to rank in the top five in the ACC in kills per set
without an individual hitter in the league’s top 10 in kills.
u MIDDLE BLOCKERSWith Leah Meyer out due to injury, middle blockers Anna Kropf
and Summer Brown have set the tone at the net for Duke. As a
senior, Kropf is enjoying a career year, totaling career bests in
kills (187) and blocks (105). She leads the team with a 1.01 blocks
per set average as well and has recorded four or more blocks in
14 matches this season. Brown has put down 96 kills for the Blue
Devils and topped four blocks nine times this season.
u NAGEL REACHES 600 WINSHead coach Jolene Nagel earned her 600th career victory in
Duke’s straight-set victory over TCU Sept. 9 in Fort Worth, Texas.
With the victory, Nagel became the 22nd active NCAA Division I
head coach to reach 600 career wins and joined Florida State’s
Chris Poole and North Carolina’s Joe Sagula as the only three ACC
coaches to reach the milestone. For her coaching career, Nagel
owns a 611-344 record with stints at Cornell, Georgetown and Duke.
In her 19th season with the Blue Devils, Nagel owns a 408-204
record at Duke including a 246-106 mark in the ACC.
u MEYER NAMED PRESEASON ALL-ACCJunior middle blocker Leah Meyer earned 2017 Preseason All-ACC
recognition after leading the 2016 Blue Devils with 139 blocks and
ranking second on the team with 316 kills. Meyer garnered AVCA
All-East Coast Region and First Team All-ACC accolades for her
sophomore season performance. Meyer ranked sixth in the ACC
and 35th nationally with a 1.31 blocks-per-set average. Her 139
total blocks were also the most by a Blue Devil since Chelsea Cook
in 2012. She posted at least four blocks in 18 matches, including
her first career double-double Sept. 24 at Virginia. Meyer totaled
12 kills and 11 blocks at UVA to record the first double-double for
a Duke middle blocker since Christian Gray in 2012. On offense,
Meyer ranked second on the team in kills and ranked eighth in the
