A story about challenging the norm, pushing boundaries and being true to oneself.

Once, there was a small rhinoceros who wanted to see the big world. So she built a boat. And sailed

away ... From the duo behind award-winning picture book No Bears comes a simple yet inspirational

tale about challenging the norm, pushing boundaries and being true to oneself.

On the riverbank, all the mud-wallowing, grass-grazing, tree-scratching, sun-bathing rhinoceroses gathered in alarm. “Come back!” they called. “It’s dangerous! You’ll get lost!”

“Perhaps,” said the small rhinoceros.

And she waved as she sailed around the bend, out of sight.

Mulga Snake The mulga snake, or king brown snake, produces more venom than any other snake.

A marsupial mole doesn’t need a lot of air to breathe. It can get enough air from the small amount that flows between the grains of sand underground.

Marsupial moles are blind and use their toughened nose pads and foreheads to bulldoze the sand when burrowing. They also use their spade-like front claws to dig and their back feet to fill in the sand behind them.

To keep sand out of their ears, marsupial moles have tiny ear holes that are covered with fur.

Like all snakes, the mulga snake hears by picking up vibrations from the ground. It smells by flicking its tongue in and out.

When mulga snakes bite, they clamp onto their prey and chew, injecting huge amounts of toxic venom.

Marsupial Mole The marsupial mole is a small mammal that lives underground in the sandy desert.

Out there in the deepest sea lies the Black Rock: a huge, dark and spiky mass that is said to destroy any boats that come near it! Can Erin uncover the truth behind this mysterious legend?

Erin loves to lie on the jetty, looking for the weirdest fish in the sea – the weirder, the better! And she knows the best ones must be further out, where her mum won't let her go...

… the legend of BLACK ROCK!

Every fisherman and fisherwoman in the town had a scary story to tell about Black Rock.

"It's as big as a house and as sharp as a sword fish!"

"It never stays in the same place and it could smash a boat to pieces!"

PICTURE BOOK

Join Baby and his mama at the bustling marketplace for a bright, bouncy read-aloud offering a gentle introduction to numbers.

Rhythmic language, visual humour and a bounty of delectable

food make this a tale that is sure to whet little appetites for story

time. When Baby and Mama go to market, baby is so adorable that

the banana seller gives him six bananas. Baby eats one and puts

five in the basket, but Mama doesn't notice...

The stellar duo behind Hoot Owl: Master of Disguise reunite to create a book that will have children (and librarians!) roaring with laughter once again.

Monster wants to be in a scary story – but is he brave enough?

Scary stories have creepy witches and creaky stairs and dark

hallways and spooky shadows… OH MY GOODNESS ME! That

is very scary. Maybe, a funny story would be better after all?

Brilliantly interactive, children will delight in the wickedly funny

turn-of-the-pages, see themselves in the goofy, unconventional

monster and revel in the bold, hilarious illustrations.

In her second self-authored picture book for Old Barn Books, Alison Jay explores a child's fear of tomorrow. How can tomorrow ever be as good as today?

A little boy puts all his scientific knowledge to use, trying to work

out how to go faster than the speed of light and make time go

backwards. His grandfather discovers him exploring the wormholes

in the garden, looking for Professor Hawking's shortcut – and

reassures him that tomorrow will hold great experiences, which

will become new treasured memories.

Crow saw it first. The strange white creature, carried upon the dark waves towards the shore...

When a polar bear arrives unexpectedly in the woods, the other animals fear and avoid him, suspecting

him to be dangerous – and his odd habit of collecting leaves only adds to their distrust. Then one day,

they watch as he attempts to fly over the water with wings made of colourful leaves... trying to get

back home. Perhaps he isn't so different after all?

PICTURE BOOK

Stomping around the forest, the creature collected leaves every day. Big leaves and small leaves, round leaves and colourful ones.

As he looked around the forest with a searching eye and tore on the green branches, the animals would flee in fear.

This stylishly illustrated book explains how our homes are supplied with electricity, water and gas.

the sky as rain then gets collected up in reservoirs and sent to

factories to be treated and tested, before it can finally be piped

to our homes. She also simply and clearly explains how electricity

is made and where the gas we use comes from. This fascinating

process book succeeds in being young, child-centred and friendly,

but also packs in an enormous amount of technical information.

This captivating and stunningly illustrated guide will teach you everything you need to know about our feline friends.

Did you know that the fishing cat has partially webbed paws for

PAWS FOR THOUGHT

Felid-like animals have been around for roughly 50 million years, but modern wild cats began to evolve around 16 million years ago. Evolution is the process by which animals have changed over time. Certain characteristics are passed down from generation to generation that help them survive. Modern species of cat are split into 8 groups, based on their history of evolution.

DomesticationHouse cats are some of the most popular pets in the world today, but the process of bringing moggies into our homes began many thousands of years ago. Recent studies suggest that cats started to live alongside humans between 9,000–10,000 years ago, around the time that humans began farming. Humans were growing and storing grains, which attracted large numbers of hungry rodents, and this rodent invasion in turn attracted wild cats. These wild cats became domesticated by hanging around humans to get easy food – and they provided efficient pest control at the same time.

Tooth and TailMany felid species that once roamed the earth are now extinct. The prehistoric Smilodon populator, more commonly known as the sabre-toothed tiger, was built like a bear with huge knife-like teeth that were too big to fit in its mouth!

This species of wild cat is imaginatively called a wildcat and is part of the Felis lineage.
