WEDNESDAY | APR 26

The theme of this conference is “Waves of Change, Oceans of Opportunity.” The oil

industry has gone through major waves of change. The wide swings in oil prices has

caused grueling and painful disruptions and yet innovations and improvements. Dr.

Fattahi, 2010 SPE President will moderate this interesting panel.  Dr. Paul will provide

interesting insights on macro level of booms and busts. Dr. Hite will bring it down to a

micro level, discussing lessons learned from a downturn. Ending upbeat on oceans of

opportunities, Dr. Gautier will discuss the reserves potential in a volatile market.

Thank you for joining us for the 2017 Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Western Regional Meeting (WRM) in Bakersfield. We were delighted to host this event once again in San Joaquin Valley, where there is a long connection to the oil industry. The organization committee has put a lot of thought and hard work into designing a diverse and exciting conference.

I hope this exciting agenda has encouraged everyone – from students and young professionals to SPE members and non-members, to participate and learn about latest technologies as well as challenges and opportunities ahead.

On behalf of SPE Western North America Region, I thank you for participating and hope to see you next year!
