ACRO2017Radiation Oncology: An Expanding Role

Lawrence Kleinberg, MD Chair, Scientific Program Committee

James Welsh, MD, FACRO President

Eduardo Fernandez, MD, PhD, FACRO Vice President & General Program Chair

Julia White, MD Vice Chair, Scientific Program Committee

Dear Colleague,Over the past quarter century, ACRO has hosted the conference for radiation oncologists, encompassing a broad spectrum of educational offerings in a comfortable and effective learning environment featuring presentations from the best and brightest minds in cancer treatment. The 2017 meeting will stick closely to the spirit of previous conferences, but this year have even more opportunities to network with peers and create new professional connections.

The scientific program theme for this year’s conference is “Radiation Oncology: An Expanding Role”. As our patients and practices change, we’ve created a program aimed at giving you the knowledge and connections to grow professionally, see and hear the latest best practices in the field, and meet some familiar and new faces.

One of the hallmarks of ACRO annual conferences is their low-stress approach to intense CME. There is no rushing around to get from one short presentation to another; all sessions are in the same room and the right length to allow ample time for each speaker to explore the subject and answer questions. You will receive an in-depth and practical discussion of the subjects important to you from top clinical experts – AND the opportunity to ask questions one-on-one.

Welcome to ACRO 2017!

Warm Regards,

ACRO 2017 is the ideal meeting to

prepare for recertification exams, gain clinical insights,

and advocate for radiation oncology.

Welcome to

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of the conference attendees should be able to:

1. Implement the latest scientific advances into evidenced based standards of care in radiation oncology.

2. Demonstrate competence in billing and coding for radiation oncology treatment in the face of increased governmental regulation and financial cuts.

3. Evaluate the treatment of acute and long-term complications of radiation therapy for Genitourinary, Central Nervous System, Lung, Breast, Head and Neck, Gastrointestinal, and Gynecological Malignancies in order to improve patient outcomes.

4. Describe and apply state of the art treatment management for Genitourinary, Central Nervous System, Lung, Breast, Head and Neck, Gastrointestinal, and Gynecological Malignancies.

5. Interpret the changing political, economic, and regulatory health care environment in order to survive the year ahead.

6. Link clinical/practice updates to address clinical controversies in tumor boards and grand rounds.

ACCREDITATION, CME CREDITS AND DISCLOSURE:This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA) through the joint providership of Community Health Network and the American College of Radiation Oncology. Community Health Network is accredited by ISMA to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Community Health Network designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 22.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Important Safety Information Most side effects of radiotherapy, including radiotherapy delivered with Accuray systems, are mild and temporary, often involving fatigue, nausea, and skin irritation. Side effects can be severe, however, leading to pain, alterations in normal body functions (for example, urinary or salivary function), deterioration of quality of life, permanent injury, and even death. Side effects can occur during or shortly after radiation treatment or in the months and years following radiation. The nature and severity of side effects depend on many factors, including the size and location of the treated tumor, the treatment technique (for example, the radiation dose), and the patient’s general medical condition, to name a few. For more details about the side effects of your radiation therapy, and to see if treatment with an Accuray product is right for you, ask your doctor. MKT-ARA-0716-0106(1)

As part of its mission as the “essential professional society for success in the day-to-day practice of radiation oncology,” the American College of Radiation Oncology developed a program in 1995 to accredit radiation oncology practices. The goal: to equip radiation oncologists with a power-ful tool to proactively protect patients, manage risk, and review practices from top to bottom. Since then, ACRO Accreditation has undergone periodic revisions to reflect clinical and scientific advances within the field. In October 2010, ACRO Accreditation emerged from an extensive administrative review with an updated and intuitive Web-based accreditation system, powered by Equal-Estro. This new system features:

wunbiased, blind, online case reviews by a disease site specific panel of experts

wsmart 100% electronic compliant submission of case fileswa detailed and organized process, with automatic
