Who can audition? All fifth through twelfth grade students (2017-18 school year) who are in good behavioral/academic standing may audition. In accordance with the Three Rivers Educational Campus extracurricular code of conduct policy, participation in extracurricular activities (which includes the school musical) is dependent upon the following: you must be in good academic standing, have a good school attendance record, and follow the school and district code of conduct. The administration may withdraw this privilege at any time. Music must be instrumental only. You will not be allowed to audition to music with vocal tracks. Participating in a school musical production provides a unique and rewarding experience for the students of Three Rivers Educational Campus. In order to best serve the needs and goals of producing a major musical, participants should be comprised of those students who are willing and able to make a total commitment to the schedule involved in producing a show such as The Wizard of Oz. This commitment may limit the cast due to after school conflicts (cheerleading, football, soccer, volleyball, golf, Girls on the Run, etc.) but should not prohibit involvement in the fall musical. It is necessary that parents, guardians, and students are aware of the commitment and responsibilities required for participating in a school musical before the student auditions. Hopefully, this knowledge will promote the cooperation and dedication necessary to produce a successful show, and will eliminate misunderstandings and lack of teamwork.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Who makes the casting decisions?

The decision makers are the director(s) with input from the music director, technical director, house manager, and house

assistant. These staff members work together as a collaborative team. They begin to discuss and rate the audition participants

as soon as participants complete the audition process. This has to be done in order to initiate the callback process.

Who is responsible for making the final decision?

The director(s) will make the final decision, especially if the staff members cannot agree on a casting choice.

When is the casting meeting held and who attends this meeting?

The casting meeting is held after callbacks. The following people attend this meeting: the director, the music director, the

choreographer, the stage manager and the producer.

Who is in the room during auditions and callbacks?

How are final casting decisions made?

Final casting decisions are made based on the Director’s vision of the show and the characters, the recommendations of the

Music Director, and scheduled conflicts. While the Director has a certain vision of the show, casting may also be influenced

by the specific actors that auditioned, and the requirements of certain roles (such as a singing role with a particularly high

vocal range.)

General Information FAQ’s:

What is my time commitment as a Parent/Guardian?

organization, costuming, etc. More details to follow at the Parent Meeting.

How much money can I expect this commitment to cost me?

Participation in Three Rivers Children’s Theatre/Taylor High School Drama/Taylor Middle School Drama is $60.

Additionally the costs for the costumes will depend on which role your child is cast. You may be asked to provide parts of

the costumes. Specific types of shoes may be also required for the rehearsals and production.

Optional costs include sweatshirts/t-shirts, photographs, and the cast party.

When are rehearsals and how often are they scheduled?

Reasons for Conflicts

Date Reason for Conflict (brief)

Three Rivers Children’s Theatre’s

CONFLICT POLICY:

TRCT reserves the right to NOT CAST a participant if there are excessive conflicts.

Each cast member must be available for the full run of technical rehearsals and performances.

Planned conflicts must be turned in on the conflict sheet by the night of auditions. Any conflicts received

after that will be considered an unexcused absence.

Cast members may have two (3) unexcused absence during the rehearsal period. Participants with additional

absences may be asked to leave the show.

Arriving more than 30 minutes late or leaving early from rehearsal is considered an absence. If a cast member

needs to be late to rehearsal for a planned event, it must submitted prior to the date of absence.

TRCT cannot plan rehearsals without an accurate understanding of who is available at any given rehearsal.

Therefore, failure to accurately complete the conflict calendar may result in loss of part or being asked to

leave the show.
