Details about the annual full-time tuition and fee schedules: The annual full-time tuition and fee schedules show the tuition and fees a full-time student will be charged for Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters combined. The amounts shown are only for students enrolled in tuition-based programs. Information about the range of fee-based programs offered through UW’s Continuum College (CC), including fee amounts, can be found here.
Students enrolled in a tuition-based program on any UW campus will be charged tuition (which comprises the operating and building fee), a Technology Fee, and a Services & Activity Fee. Other mandatory fees differ between the campuses. UW in Seattle also charges and IMA Bond Fee, a Facilities Renovation Fee, and a U-PASS fee. UW Bothell also charges a Sports Field Fee, an Activities & Recreation Center Construction Fee, and an Activities & Recreation Center Program Fee. UW Tacoma also charges a UW Tacoma YMCA fee.
In the list of rates for tuition-based students is an undergraduate non-matriculated rate and a graduate non-matriculated rate. This causes confusion because one of the categories shown on the CC website is one of non-degree enrollment. When will a student be classified as a tuition-based non-matriculated student and when as a fee-based student? Most non-matriculated students have to register for courses through CC, and they will be charged fees for courses on a per-credit basis. The only students who will be charged the non-matriculated tuition rates shown in this table are those who enroll using an exemption. RCW 28B.15.558 and RCW 28B.15.540 allow the UW to waive tuition for students who are UW or state employees, or who are Washington residents who are sixty years old or above, if they take up to six credits on a space available basis. The non-matriculated rate is presented in the tuition table because such students will be charged tuition if they take more than six credits; in such instances, the non-matriculated rates are applied. In addition, for summer quarter only, undergraduate non- matriculated students will follow the summer-only application process through the Office of the Registrar and will be charged the non-matriculated undergraduate tuition rate as shown in this table.
Details about the quarterly per-credit tuition and fee schedules:
As explained for annual full-time schedules, these schedules include information only for students enrolled in tuition-based programs. The charges shown are the quarterly charges for students taking any number of credits from two to thirty. Per RCW 28B.15.100:
• Students taking fewer than two credit hours will be charged for two credit hours, • Charges will be prorated for students enrolled part-time, and • A per-credit surcharge will be charged for students taking more than eighteen credits, except
that • Students enrolled in and MD or DDS program will not be charged that surcharge, and • The surcharge will be waived for students enrolled in a JD or PharmD program.
Note that undergraduate students taking ten or more credits in a quarter will be charged the full-time rate, as will graduate students taking seven or more credits or MD or DDS students taking thirteen or more credits.
