• 7 The LORD said, “I have indeed seen the

misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard

them crying out because of their slave

drivers, and I am concerned about their

suffering. 8 So I have come down to rescue

them from the hand of the Egyptians and to

bring them up out of that land into a good

and spacious land, a land flowing with milk

and honey... 9 And now the cry of the

Israelites has reached me, and I have seen

the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. 10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh

to bring my people the Israelites out of

Egypt.”

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

• 13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat

privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed

him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large

crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.

• 15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said,

“This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the

crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves

some food.”

• 16 Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them

something to eat.”

• 17 “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they

answered.

• 18 “Bring them here to me,” he said. 19 And he directed the people

to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish

and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves.

Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to

the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples

picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men,

besides women and children.

• 35 For I was hungry and you

gave me something to eat, I

was thirsty and you gave me

something to drink, I was a

stranger and you invited me

in, 36 I needed clothes and

you clothed me, I was sick

and you looked after me, I

was in prison and you came

to visit me.’10/5/2017 Dr. Rey Ty 12

Religious PeacebuildingLuke 4:16-20 NIV Caring & Sharing

• 16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought

up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the

synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to

him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is

written:

• 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,

because he has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners

and recovery of sight for the blind,

to set the oppressed free,19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”[a]

• 20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the

attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the

synagogue were fastened on him.

The Year of the LORD’s Favor

• 61 1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on

me,

because the LORD has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to bind up the

brokenhearted,

to proclaim freedom for the captives

and release from darkness for the

prisoners,[a]

2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor

and the day of vengeance of our God,

to comfort all who mourn,

• 43 Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe;

and many wonders and signs were taking

place through the apostles. 44 And all those

who had believed were together and had all

things in common; 45 and they began

selling their property and possessions and

were sharing them with all, as anyone might

have need. 46 Day by day continuing with

one mind in the temple, and breaking bread

from house to house, they were taking their

meals together with gladness and sincerity

of heart, 47 praising God and having favor

with all the people. And the Lord was adding

to their number day by day those who were

being saved. 10/5/2017 Dr. Rey Ty 18
