Belinda F. Redding, RN, BSN, MSN KWHRNA Medical Officer President

UNAC/UHCP Boards of Director Hello my brother and sisters, my name is Belinda “Bea” Redding. I am running for re-election to Board of Directors and I am asking for your vote. I have been a Registered Nurse for 29 years and a good standing UNAC/UHCP member since 1990. I began my fight to stand-up and become an “active” member of my affiliate in 2005, when I was elected as secretary. The fire that was set under my feet was ignited when I was unjustly suspended while working in the critical care unit. I vowed to learn more about my contract and to stand up for the rights and benefits that were diligently negotiated for our members. In 2006, I transferred to the clinic and was appointed Clinic President; the following year I was elected into this position and dutifully served for 10 years. Additionally, I served as contract specialist for two consecutive years increasing my knowledge of the contract and the National Agreement. During the 2012 convention, I was elected to serve as a member of the Board of Directors. This role has given me a deeper insight of the needed work of the union. During my various roles with the UNAC/UHCP, I have had several successful grievances, participated in organizing campaigns, involved in political activities, participated in work during negotiations, attended conventions, and knocked on doors in the frigid cold of North Dakota spreading the word on the need of health care reform. My work is not done, there is still more for me to do and learn. The past four years teased my yearning to do more therefore, I am asking for your vote to re-elect me as a member of UNAC/UHCP Board of Directors.

My  strong  union  activism  began  in  2007  when  I  was  elected  by  my  peers  to  the  first  SCNSC  bargaining  team.    Unfortunately,  management’s  intransigence  prevented  us  from  ratifying  a  first  contract.  In  2012  I  was  reelected  to  the  bargaining  team,  where  we  successfully  negotiated  a  first  contract  for  KPMWON.    I  was  elected  President  of  KPMWON  in  2013  and  reelected  in  2015.      And  as  an  elected  member  of  the  2015  bargaining  team  for  KP  national  negotiations,  I  was  honored  to  represent  my  brothers  and  sisters  across  the  nation.

In  2015,  while  working  on  a  Doctorate  in  nursing,  I  developed  a  survey  to  better  understand  member  perception  of  which  union  benefits  are  most  important  to  them.  KPMWON  has  implemented  strategies  identified  in  my  survey  to  increase  KPMWON  member  satisfaction  and  participation.        Politically  active,  and  a  proud  PEOPLE  supporter,  I  have  worked  closely  with  our  political  director  monitoring  activities  in  Sacramento  that  impact  my  affiliate’s  members.        In  2016,  I  volunteered  to  coordinate  the  AFSCME  convention  wellness  booth  and  also  presented  a  seminar  on  Women’s  health  screening  guidelines  to  convention  attendees.    In  addition,  I  was  elected  by  UNAC/UHCP  members  to  be  a  delegate  to  the  AFSCME  convention.          Clearly,  I  recognize  the  value  being  a  UNAC/UHCP  member  and  strive  to  educate  my  peers,  members,  fellow  nurses,  and  union  brothers  and  sisters  of  the  benefits  and  power  we  gain  by  joining  as  one.      With  more  than  38  years  of  nursing  experience,  including  Navy  nursing,  L&D  nursing  in  Orange  County  and  20  years  as  a  KP  Midwife,  I  have  the  vision  to  bring  value  and  insight  to  the  UNAC/UHCP  board  of  directors.  After  your  review,  I  sincerely  hope  you  will  recognize  my  leadership  abilities  and  commitment  to  our  union.    Please  honor  me  with  your  vote  of  confidence.    I  am  excited  about  the  prospect  of  serving  on  the  BOD.        Nancy  Rouse,  RN,  CNM,  BSN,  MSN,  DNP  President,  KPMWON

Hello, my name is Scott Byington and I am a candidate for Executive Vice President of UNAC/UHCP. I have been a very active and proud member of UNAC/UHCP. I served as an officer for the St. Francis Registered Nurses Association (SFRNA) for over 20 years. I have served as an UNAC/UHCP Board of Directors since 2006. I have participated in events where UNAC/UHCP collaboratively joined in with other unions such as the march for good jobs and healthcare from “Hollywood to the Docks.” In Baton Rouge, Louisiana, I joined UNAC/UHCP and AFSCME for “House Calls for Healthcare,” to encourage the passage of “The Affordable Care Act.” I have participated in the organizing of Lakewood Regional Medical Center, Beverly Hospital, and others. I also participated in AFSCME’s campaign to organize nurses from the Resurrection Hospitals in Chicago. I have provided support, during difficult bargaining, to my brothers and sisters from Kaiser Permanente and other independent affiliates. I have been an expert witness for nursing/healthcare related issues such as the controversial Kentucky River decision, implementation and enforcement of safe staffing legislation, and most recently workplace violence. As a proud and vocal UNAC/UHCP member, I enjoy the tough challenges brought about by anti-union organizations. I have over 20 years of experience with challenging an adversarial healthcare organization. Under the guidance of UNAC/UHCP and the affiliate officers of the SFRNA, we defeated Prime Healthcare. I have a Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in management/organizational leadership emphasizing transformational leadership. I am nationally credentialed in critical care and I am a 27-year veteran bedside nurse. As a professional healthcare provider and proud union member, I am asking for your consideration to elect me as the next UNAC/UHCP Executive Vice President.

Thank you,

Scott Byington MSN, RN, CCRN

It  is  with  great  honor,  pride  and  humility  that  I  seek  election  to  the  UNAC/UHCP  Board  of  Directors.  In  the  years  to  come  Kaiser  will  likely  expand  far  beyond  its  presence  in  eight  states.  I  anticipate  the  largest  segment  of  growth  to  be  retail  medical  clinics  and  that  growth  to  occur  by  mergers  with  large  medical  groups  across  the  country.      As  a  Physician  Assistant  for  over  thirty  years  and  the  past  owner  of  both  a  private  medical  clinic  and  a  mobile  medical  business  I  feel  fully  qualified  to  represent  our  members  in  this  expansion.  Twenty-‐one  years  has  taught  me  that  we  have  to  keep  our  eyes  wide  open  with  every  move  Kaiser  makes  less  we  suffer  short  staffing  and/or  forced  exodus  from  the  clinical  setting.      I  am  ready,  willing  and  able  to  participate  in  the  fight  for  our  rights,  our  growth  and  future  expansion  across  California  and  the  United  States  and  to  join  my  fellow  Board  of  Director  members  on  the  front  line  in  the  battles  that  await  us.      There  is  no  other  association  that  has  demonstrated  such  inclusiveness  and  vision  for  the  future  than  has  UNAC/UHCP.  I  am  honored  to  be  a  part  of  you  and  would  be  privileged  to  serve  as  a  member  of  your  Board  of  Directors.      If  elected  I  pledge  to  continue  to  help  build  union  capacity,  to  fight  against  anyone  and/or  any  organization  that  seeks  to  reduce  our  benefits,  rights  and/or  privileges  and  to  serve  all  our  members  to  the  best  of  my  abilities.  I’m  asking  for  your  vote  so  that  I  can  get  off  the  sidelines  and  into  the  game.      My  heartfelt  appreciation  for  your  consideration.      In  Solidarity      Darryl  Drew  de  Haas  PA-‐C    KWHRNA  Affiliate

Charmaine Morales, RN for UNAC/UHCP Executive Vice President

My name is Charmaine Morales and I’m running for Executive Vice President of UNAC/UHCP. For the past three years as your State Secretary I’ve worked to empower all of our affiliates by providing more resources and training around our constitution, election process and compliance with the DOL. My work around affiliate elections has been acknowledged by AFSCME leadership and many of the changes I’ve made at UNAC have been implemented elsewhere. I’ve worked to increase leadership opportunities to enhance service to our union members and build affiliate activists. As an advisory council member of the Filipino Migrant Center I work to place health care workers in volunteer programs that service our underserved communities. I’ve worked to make our union more accessible and transparent, including having an open communication with members and local officers. I’ve rounded in all but 3 affiliates and have engaged each officer in conversation around the work of the union. As a graduate of the 2015 AFSCME Women’s Leadership Academy I learned the power of communication and telling the union story. The union story is the basis for our Union-Strong campaign. We must always build the next generation of union activists and health care workers. I’ve engaged Harbor College and the Board of Trustee’s for the Los Angeles community colleges in the work of UNAC/UHCP and our scholarship program. I’ve been a small business owner and I’m a nurse. These experiences gave me the tools to innovate. I believe strongly in building relationships to improve systems, bargain for change and grow UNAC/UHCP. My workplace violence language bargained in the national agreement is groundbreaking and will provide a template for other union contracts. I ask for your vote so that I can continue to help build the future of UNAC/UHCP. In solidarity, Charmaine S. Morales, RN

 Wendy  Burrell  Biography

Fellow  Professionals  and  Nurses    This  is  a  short  note  to  extend  a  hand  in  greeting  that  you  may  get  to  know  me-‐Wendy  Burrell.    I  am  currently  seeking  your  support  in  obtaining  a  seat  on  the  Board  of  Directors.    I  am  presently  the  Co-‐Chair  of  Fountain  Valley  Professional  Association  (FVPA)  and  have  worked  the  past  thirty-‐three  years  as  a  nurse  at  Fountain  Valley  Regional  Hospital  in  Labor  and  Delivery.    The  majority  of  my  experience  at  Fountain  Valley  has  consisted  in  the  role  of  the  Charge  Nurse,  so  my  ability  to  be  open,  aware,  delegate  and  reason  is  fine  tuned.    My  commitment  to  UNAC/UHCP  began  in  1985  when  I  attended  a  meeting  to  organize  the  nurses  at  the  hospital.      From  1985-‐1991,  there  were  legal  battles  and  harassment  but  I  am  proud  to  say  I  was  a  part  of  the  arduous  journey  to  form  FVPA.      The  first  contract  was  ratified  in  1993  and  I  have  been  a  participant  of  each  negotiating  team  since.    In  1994,  I  became  an  officer  for  FVPA.  I  have  served  in  every  role  except  Parliamentarian.    Between  1993-‐2000,  the  affiliate  consisted  of  100  due  paying  members  out  of  1000.      Those  years  taught  me  perseverance,  loyalty  and  dedication.    My  work  for  the  union  reaches  beyond  the  local  affiliate.      I  currently  serve  on  the  state  finance  committee,  worked  on  the  amendments  for  this  convention  and  attend  the  executive  council  meetings.    I  have  helped  in  the  organizing  campaigns  for  Lakewood,  Beverly,  Mission  and  Fresenius  dialysis  nurses.      I  am  not  all  work.      I  love  a  good  laugh,  a  great  debate,  to  read  and  travel.    Most  important  I  love  to  spend  time  with  my  precious  grandchildren    If  elected  to  serve  on  the  Board  of  Directors,  I  would  invest  and  commit  myself  to  the  change  and  growth  of  UNAC/UHCP.

Thank  you  for  taking  the  time  to  read  my  biography.  I  am  the  incumbent  running  for  the  office  of  UNAC/UHCP  Board  of  Directors.    I'd  like  to  tell  you  a  little  about  me.    I  am  a  40  year  Kaiser  employee  working  in  the  OB/GYN  department  at  the  Orchard  as  a  Women's  Health  Nurse  Practitioner.    I  have  been  actively  involved  in  UNAC/UHCP  for  over  37  years.    Within  3  months  of  becoming  a  RN  at  Kaiser  Bellflower  I  took  training  to  be  a  steward  and  went  to  my  first  UNAC  convention.    I  made  a  commitment  37  years  ago  to  be  a  representative  to  support  the  professional  employees  who  make  up  our  great  union.    For  over  3  decades  I  have  supported  our  ability  as  Nurses  and  Health  Care  Professional  to  participate  in  negotiations  and  discussions  that  involve  our  ability  to  represent  our  hours  of  work,  conditions  of  work  and  pay.

I  have  held  the  office  of  Medical  Office  President  for  almost  30  years  at  Kaiser  Bellflower/Downey  Medical  Center.    I  have  also  been  an  elected  member  of  the  UNAC/UHCP  BOD  for  over  25  years.  In  2013  I  was  appointed  to  the  office  of  interim  Secretary/Treasurer  of  UNAC/UHCP.  I  held  that  position  for  6  months  until  a  special  election  was  held.  I  choose  not  to  run  for  the  office,  but  rather  return  to  Kaiser  Downey  to  represent  the  RN's  and  NP's  at  Downey  Medical  Center  and  remain  an  active  and  vocal  member  of  the  UNAC/UHCP  Board  of  Directors.

I  am  a  strong  supporter  for  the  Kaiser  LMP.    Over  the  past  17  years  of  partnership  I  have  held  several  positions  of  Labor  Co-‐lead  for  such  sub-‐committees  as  the  Education  and  Training  Sub-‐Committee,  UBT  Strategy  Committee,  and  the  Downey  LMP  Labor  Manager  for  the  LMP  Consultant.    I  am  knowledgeable  about  our  contract  and  have  participated  in  local  bargaining  every  year  since  1992.    I  am  proud  to  share  that  I  am  one  of  only  a  handful  of  Kaiser  coalition  employees  (over  100,000  coalition  employees  working  for  Kaiser)  who  has  been  selected  or  elected  to  represent  our  represented  employees  at  National  Bargaining  for  each  year  Kaiser  Coalition  Employees  have  been  part  of  National  Bargaining;  2000,  2005,  2010,  2012  and  2015.

When  you  vote  for  me  you  are  getting  a  quality  candidate  who  has  a  known  history  of  integrity  and  professionalism  as  a  leader  in  our  union.  I  promise  I  will  represent  UNAC/UHCP's  interests  and  always  support  your  collective  bargaining  rights  as  a  Union  member.      My  record  speaks  for  itself.    When  you  receive  your  ballot  I  ask  you  to  make

the  best  choice  possible  and  place  a  "X"  by  my  name,  Pamela  Brodersen,  NP    I  thank  you  for  your  support.    Let's  keep  our  Union  strong  and  professional.    A  vote  for  Pam  is  the  right  choice!    Pamela  Brodersen,  NP  for  UNAC/UHCP  Board  of  Directors.

Dear  Esteemed  Convention  Attendees,    Please  let  me  share  with  you  why  I  am  running  for  the  Board  of  Directors  of  UNAC/UHCP.  I  am  an  Emergency  Room  nurse  who  started  to  get  involved  with  the  union  in  mid-‐2012.  I  was  present  during  the  South  Bay  2012  position  elimination  meetings  and  saw  how  the  75  nurses  being  affected  were  comforted  by  the  local  union  leaders.  The  confidence  and  strength  shown  then  have  become  my  mantra  now.  As  the  local  President  I  am  proud  to  show  the  members  and  my  fellow  officers  a  confidence,  determination  and  the  strength  to  stand  up  to  the  many  challenges  a  union  leader  faces  daily.  Being  on  the  BOD  will  allow  me  to  share  my  ideas  and  vision  with  others.  As  a  professional  RN  my  goal  is  to  elevate  the  RN  and  all  other  professionals  this  union  represents  to  have  the  maximum  scope  of  practice  and  the  trust  shown  to  RN’s  to  be  shown  to  the  rest  of  our  members.  The  power  that  our  contracts  contain  is  advantaged  with  strong  leadership.  I  bring  that  leadership.  Working  in  a  team  setting  with  the  stewards  and  local  union  officers  has  allowed  our  affiliate  at  South  Bay  take  the  message  to  the  community  of  one  that  shows  UNAC/UHCP  cares  about  you  and  wants  to  be  there  for  you.  I  need  your  vote  to  do  this.

Helping  shape  the  local  union  gives  me  the  tools  needed  to  help  shape  the  BOD  and  the  decisions  and  actions  that  I  will  stand  for  are  of  inclusiveness,  strength  in  numbers,  professionalism,  dedication  and  honesty.

I  will  help  support  the  state  officers  achieve  the  goals  of  the  union,  support  and  influence  those  decisions  as  we  grow  to  be  the  National  Nurses  union  of  choice!

Vote  for  me  Javier  Rodriguez,  RN.

             Re-‐elect  for  Treasurer

Hi, I’m Jettie Deden-Castillo, NP. I’ve been a nurse since 1977 and an OB/GYN NP since 1979. I am your UNAC/UHCP Treasurer, and the Secretary/Treasurer for the National Union of Hospital and Healthcare Employees (NUHHCE). Three years ago I took on a new role for the first time in 39 years, as a state officer. In my Treasurer’s role, I wear many hats. First and foremost I make sure that UNAC/UHCP follows the standards of the AFSCME Financial Code and is in compliance with the DOL.

I’ve built a team to improve the accountability, processing and efficiency of our Finance Department. We have worked tirelessly to improve our IT systems, member officer education, and IRS, DOL reporting.

Goals achieved:

Finance: • Implementation of Paychex, Union Ware, QuickBooks to improve efficiency, and cost

savings. • Created education workshops for new local Treasurer’s • Created systems to Assess DOL, AFSMCE, and IRS compliance • Changed fiscal year to improve auditing processes • Created business case for National Union to acquire Union Ware, and update their systems.

Nurse Practitioner: • Engaged Advanced Practice care givers and other Health Care Professionals in

understanding the power of the Union. • Presented wellness classes to the underserved women and girls in our communities. • Takes lead role in networking with NP’s in the KP/Target retail clinic rollout and

expansion. • Serves as representative on the LMP regional steering committee • 2015 KP National Bargaining Team on UBT’s.

When I’m not in the office I’m out working to internally and externally organize. I worked passionately on the Mission and LAMC campaigns and now I’m supporting the SHARP nurses on their internal organizing drive. I am a hands on leader.

I am the best choice to elect for Treasurer. My work has just begun.

Jettie Deden-Castillo, NP

Vote  Rob  Jones  for    Board  of  Directors!

If elected, I promise to represent UNAC/UHCP healthcare professionals with pride and devotion in a dignified and responsible manner. I have participated in AFSCME and UNAC/UHCP conferences and conventions as well as presently sitting on the Executive Council. On the Affiliate level, I started as a Steward. I was elected into an affiliate officer position, then elected Vice President of Clinics and now serve as President for Clinics. I am also on the UBT and work at one of the busiest ERs in the Western United States. As a front line staff person, I know that receiving input from other frontline staff is vital in being able to represent you and our great Union as a Director on this Board.

Those of you who know me from executive Council and conferences, know that I will not rubberstamp issues or proposals put forward, just to “go along to get along”. I will engage in meaningful thought, conversation and dialogue to ensure that the best decisions are made for the union as a whole and the individuals thereof.

I am asking for your Vote to elect me (Rob Jones) to the Board of Directors. I want to be a member of the Board of Directors to help ensure that our union keep growing strong and moving forward.
