Gospel-Driven Gifting

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:8-10) For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. (Galatians 5:6) What do I mean?

• Grace and works have a crucial order. God’s work FOR us first, God’s work IN and THROUGH us ALWAYS follows! ALWAYS!

• The ‘it is finished” of Jesus Christ secures our eternal redemption. Our works do not. We do not do good works for merit, earning, deserving or for the basis of love, acceptance & forgiveness with God.

• Our meaning, purpose and value is not found in what we do for God or others, but in Jesus Christ’s work for us! He did the greatest work ever.

• And now, through the work of the Spirit, God is manifesting Himself through us.

• Spiritual gifts, and good works are not simply us reaching out to our neighbor so that they are “all set”, but that they come to know the God of the gifts and gifting, especially in the wonder & beauty of the cross & resurrection of Jesus!

• Think about this: "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

MOTIVATIONAL GIFTS (Romans 12:1-9) I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. MANIFESTATIONAL GIFTS (1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 18) Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose.

CHARACTER GIFTS (Galatians 5:22-23) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. BODY-LIFE GIFTS (cascade of re-producing gifts) (Ephesians 4:7-16) But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. This is why it says: "When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men." (What does "he ascended" mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

Motivational & Manifestations Gifts by Dr. Richard Goswiller The Motivational Gifts (Romans 12): Prophecy - this is declarting truth, insight. The ability to "see" where people and programs really are. The basic motivation is to make motives right. Serving - this is giving practical assistance and help. The ability to see and do things that need to be done. The basic motivation is to demonstrate love by meeting practical needs and rendering assistance. Teaching - this is to clarify truth, indoctrination. The ability to impart knowledge and to lead others into revealed truth. The motivation is to search out and validate truth which has been declared. Exhortation - this is to promote personal progress, to encourage. The ability to encourage people to grow and to meet successfully the experiences of life. The basic motivation is to stimulate - the faith and personal growth of others. Giving - (contributing) - this is to share in material, assistance. The ability to handle and to give from one's personal assets. The motivation is to meet the needs of the work of God and the ministry of others in order to see them progress. Leadership - (facilitating) - the ability to organize and give leadership aid. The ability to see long range goals and to facilitate others in the right tasks. The basic motivation is to coordinate the activities of others to achieve common goals. Mercy - this is giving personal support, empathizing. The ability to feel where people are at and to identify with their needs. The basic motivation is to identify with people and to bring relief to those who are in distress. . The Manifestational Gifts (1 Corinthians 12): Word of Wisdom - Supernatural revelation to the proper application. of knowledge. Word of Knowledge - Supernatural revelation of certain facts in the mind of God that are not known to the person unless God chooses to reveal them. Faith - A supernatural or special purpose or miracle producing faith. Gifts of Healings - A supernatural healing of the physical body, making a person physically well.

Working of Miracles - A supernatural manifestation of the power of God.Prophecy - A supernatural speaking forth of the mind of the Lord which results in the strengthening, encouragement, or comfort of the hearer. Discerning of spirits - A supernatural enablement to see the reality of a person's heart or the influence of a spirit . Different Tongues - The supernatural ability to speak in a language that is unknown to the speaker. Interpretation of Tongues - The supernatural ability to give forth the meaning of what has been spoken in an unknown tongue.
