2016 SEC Gymnastics Broadcast Schedule
The Alabama gymnastics team will be the No. 1 seed when the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional Championships gets underway Saturday, April 2 at 4 p.m. CT in Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide, ranked fourth nation-ally, comes into the Tuscaloosa Regional having won an NCAA-best 30 regional titles. Alabama has also advanced to the NCAA Championships 33 years in a row. The top-two teams from each of the six regionals across the country will move on to the NCAA Championships, which will be held April 15-16 in Ft. Worth, Texas. This marks the 14th time Alabama has hosted a gymnastics regional and the first since 2013. Alabama will be joined by No. 2 seed California, No. 3 seed Boise State as well as Ken-tucky, West Virginia and Bowling Green. The top-18 teams in the nation by regional qualifying score are seeded into the six regional sites. The remaining three teams come from within the region. This will be West Virginia’s and Kentucky’s second trip to Tuscaloosa this year, following regular-season meets on Feb. 14 and Feb. 5, respectively. Boise State was last in Tuscaloosa for a dual meet during the 2015 season. The Tide will open the regional on a bye before starting competition on the uneven bars. From there, Alabama will move to the balance beam before going to its second bye. The Tide then goes to the floor exercise before finishing on the vault.
The No. 13 Razorbacks were the third team announced during the NCAA Selection Show, being paired with No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 12 Nebraska in the Iowa City Regional, which is hosted by No. 19 Iowa. Kent State and Central Michigan round out the six-team field, which will compete Saturday, April 2 in Carver-Hawkeye Arena at 4 p.m. This is the 13th-con-secutive trip to NCAA Regionals for Cook and the program, as Arkansas will try to qualify for NCAA Session II for the first time since 2013. From 2008-2013, the Razorbacks made six-straight trips to nationals, with a program-best finish of fifth overall in 2009. Arkansas is coming off an SEC Championship program-best score of 196.500 on Saturday in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The Razorbacks finished the regular season with a 7-5 dual meet record, including a 4-3 mark in SEC competition. It was the team’s best conference record since 2012, and included a win over No. 4 Alabama in Tuscaloosa for the first time in program history. Arkansas’ rotations will begin on floor exercise, move to vault and then have a bye. The team starts back up on uneven bars and then finishes on balance beam, with another bye on the tail end of the competition.

The No. 6 Auburn gymnastics team earned a No. 1 regional seed for the first time in program history and will be the top team at the NCAA Ann Ar-bor Regional. Joining the Tigers will be No. 2 seed and host Michigan, No. 3 seed Stanford, Eastern Michigan, Penn State and New Hampshire. With a 196.975 at the SEC Championship, Auburn upped its RQS to 197.150 and retained its sixth spot in the national rankings. The team’s RQS score is the highest in program history. Michigan enters the regional ranked No. 7, while Stanford stands at No. 18. Eastern Michigan is ranked 24th and Penn State rounds out things at No. 25. Senior Caitlin Atkinson was named the SEC Gymnast of the Year. Atkinson, of Houston, Texas, be-came the fourth Tiger to earn the yearly honor. She joins Sarah Went-worth (2000), Julie Dwyer (2006) and Lindsey Puckett (2008). In addition to Atkinson’s honor, freshmen Taylor Krippner and Samantha Cerio were placed on the SEC All-Freshman team.
Step one for Florida gymnastics to defend its three consecutive NCAA team titles is this Saturday in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The NCAA Minne-apolis Regional is Saturday, April 2 at 5 p.m. in the Sports Pavilion. What the teams are vying for at each of the six NCAA Regional sites is a top-two finish, which advances those teams to the NCAA Championships, set for April 15-16 in Fort Worth, Texas. Florida has advanced to the NCAA Championships 33 times in the meet’s 34-year history, missing only the 2000 event. The NCAA began seeding regional fields in 1999 and UF has been a region’s top seed in each of the last 11 years. Florida won six con-secutive NCAA Regional titles from 2005-10 and claimed the program’s 15th regional win in 2015. The Gators’ collected their 10th overall SEC team title on March 19 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Florida edged Ala-bama 197.775 – 197.75 for the title. The 0.025 winning margin equals the narrowest in the meet’s 36-year history. For the fourth time in the last five years, a Gator claimed the SEC all-around title. A pair of Gator sopho-mores equaled their collegiate-best all-around totals to go one-two, with Kennedy Baker (39.65) edging Alex McMurtry (39.625) for the title. The pair also used collegiate-best marks of 9.95 to pick up SEC individual ti-tles. McMurtry won the SEC balance beam crown and Baker shared the vault title with Alabama’s Mackenzie Brannan and Georgia’s Brandie Jay. The pair were joined on the All-SEC team by Alicia Boren and Bianca Dan-cose-Giambattisto. Boren is also part of the SEC All-Freshman team.

For a school-record 12th-consecutive year, No. 21 Kentucky gymnastics is headed to the NCAA Regionals, with a trip to Tuscaloosa, Alabama awaiting the fourth-seeded Wildcats, as the team will compete in the Tuscaloosa Regional on the campus of the University of Alabama on April 2. Kentucky is seeing unprecedented success this season, improving last weekend on its school-record regional qualifying score (196.205) after posting its best score ever at the SEC Championship with a 196.25. The Wildcats will face Alabama, California, Boise State, West Virginia and Bowling Green in the six-team pod. Kentucky has seen its largest im-provement on balance beam this season, also setting a new Kentucky record for regional qualifying score on the apparatus with a 49.13, tied for No. 20 in the country. Kentucky’s next closest RQS on balance was set in 2013, when the team put up a 49.07 for the season. The Wildcats have been led on the rotation by freshmen Sidney Dukes and Alex Hyland, who both garnered All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman team honors, after each scoring a 9.9 on the apparatus in the first session of the SEC Champion-ship. Dukes was also named to the All-SEC team and SEC All-Freshman team after posting a 39.4 in all-around. It marked a new career-best and was the second best all-around score in the first session of the SEC cham-pionship behind All-American Brandie Jay from Georgia.
The ninth-ranked Georgia gymnastics team is set to host a NCAA regional on Saturday, starting at 4 p.m in Stegeman Coliseum. The Gymdogs, fresh off a solid 196.850 performance at the SEC Championship, will host third-ranked LSU, No. 13 Oregon State, No. 22 Arizona, No. 27 George Wash-ington and 36th-ranked Michigan State, as well as individuals from North Carolina State, North Carolina, William & Mary, Towson and Maryland. Georgia, which ranks ninth in overall team RQS but was seeded 10th by the NCAA selection committee, boasts top-10 ranks in vault (third), bars (ninth) and floor exercise (ninth). The Gymdogs’ trio of seniors earned All-America honors, announced late last week. Brittany Rogers was named to the first team on vault and bars, ranking fifth and eighth in the two events, respectively. Brandie Jay joined her on the first vault team, ranking fourth, and she also was named the second team for all-around performance, finishing 11th in the country. Mary Beth Box was named to the second team on both of her events, finishing 12th on beam and on floor. The All-America announcement came on the heels of the All-SEC honors, in which Box, Jay and Rogers were joined by Rachel Schick on the All-SEC team. Sydney Snead was also recognized for her outstanding per-formance as a freshman. Georgia is slated to start on beam on Saturday, followed by a bye, floor vault, another bye, and concluding on bars. While the rotations will be new, the Gymdogs have the advantage of competing on their own equipment in front of fans clad in Georgia red and black.
