SPECIAL RECOGNITION – IN MEMORIAM 2015-2016

William John O’Brien There are many Brother Knights that have a great impact on those around them. One such person is Brother William (Bill) John O’Brien. Brother Bill was heavily involved in his community, participating with his wife Clare in Worldwide Marriage Encounter for over 30 years and the Geauga Jail Ministry. In addition to this, Brother Bill was very dedicated to pro-life activities, even as he became sick and up until his last days. In April of 2014, Brother Bill received a terminal medical diagnosis, but this didn’t stop him from being active in his parish, council, and community. He continued to participate in the 40 Days for Life campaign, the Rosary for Life, praying in front of the abortion clinic, and remaining dedicated to efforts to end abortion. Brother Bill was instrumental in creating the Geauga Council #3304 pro-life dinner, held every February. For the 2016 Pro-Life dinner, Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood director, was brought in to speak. Brother Bill worked furiously to promote the dinner, even as he was in the hospital in the last few weeks of his life. The dinner took place on February 6, 2016, and Bill passed away on February 17, 2016. For his steadfast support of pro-life efforts, even in his sickness and his dedication to the pro-life movement up to his last remaining days, the Brother Knights of Columbus across the Great State of Ohio wish to recognize Brother William John O’Brien.
