Perfect for those who want an intermediate-to-advanced overview of the sector and the library’s key functions. Our Certificates provide a solid foundation and pathway for further study if you would like to further enhance your skills and future employability.

Our Diploma provides a solid foundation and pathway for further studies towards undergraduate or postgraduate university studies in Librarianship/Information Studies, if you would like to become a qualified Librarian.

You don’t have to complete the

qualifications in order. You can jump straight to

a Diploma if you like!

Diploma of Library and Information ServicesCUL50111An exciting qualification that gives you a deeper understanding of end-to-end library functions, preparing you for a paraprofessional role as a Library Technician.

The qualification will give you a sound theoretical knowledge base, combined with practical application, enabling you to use a range of technical, specialised and managerial skills, including:• assisting and supporting professional Librarians

with higher-level duties such as copy or original cataloguing

• performing acquisition and maintenance of library resources

• assisting customers with complex reference inquiries, with advanced research skills

• facilitating interlibrary loan/document supply requests

• delivering group training sessions or community programs for staff and customers, e.g. work tasks or information literacy skills

• showing clients how to use multimedia equipment, software and/or other technologies

• using social media tools to communicate with library stakeholders and/or to promote library services, events and programs

• promoting reading and literature• understanding and promoting copyright and

licensing adherence in a library context• working effectively in a team, and providing

leadership and guidance to others with responsibility for the output of others.

Volunteering or working in a library during your studies is a requirement for studying at LTSA, and is the ultimate accessory for your studies.

This is called Work Integrated Learning and it will give you an opportunity to:

• develop your practical skills and put theory into practice in a library environment

• transform your knowledge and information into understanding

• become ‘work ready’ by gaining on-the-job skills and experience and establishing a work history

• try the career, before you ‘buy’

• connect with people who have similar interests, and access mentorship, supervision and support

• find out how the ‘system’ and library environment works

• ease the transition from study to work.

Previous industry experience is one of the most highly sought-after qualities for those entering the workforce. This experience will provide you with confidence and understanding, linking and integrating all the information and knowledge you learn in your studies.

Credit transfers

If you have completed previous formal and nationally recognised study, either individual subjects or whole qualifications, then you may be eligible for credit transfers.

Your previous study could count towards your qualification, meaning you can complete your qualification in less time, and at a decreased cost.

For more information, feel free to contact us!

RPL recognises that you may be competent in an area of study or in a subject, regardless of how, when or where you learned it.

You may have learned through previous experience (maybe a supervisor taught you on the job); or through previous study that wasn’t nationally recognised (maybe you have done a short course, or an equivalent course overseas, etc.).

The fact is, if you already have the knowledge and skills (it doesn’t matter how), and, if you satisfy the required criteria, can provide evidence and can demonstrate competence, then you should be able to receive RPL.

Through RPL, you may be awarded a Statement of Attainment for individual or multiple units, or you may be able to get RPL for an entire qualification.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Study investment

Your course investment is one of the key investments you can make for your career and future.

We give you a range of flexible options to make LIS vocational education as accessible and easy as possible:

• Full up-front payment by an employer or other company, agency or organisation.

• Payment plans of one unit/subject per month, payable over the course of your study.

• VET FEE-HELP for CUL50111 Diploma of Library and Information Services is available through our partner, Australis College (RTO 31518) as the issuing Registered Training Organisation.
