My sister CoCo and I spent the holidays sharing love with our newest lile diva, Olive, who had no idea life could be bright and full of light! We were so blessed when Olive came into our lives...she is our rescue angel. Olive is a great lile ambassa- dor for the joys and benefits of rescue, adopon, fostering and overcoming adversity, neglect and abuse. This is the awareness that Sophia dedicated her life to—animal awareness—as she, herself, was a vicm of abuse. Sophia’s work lives on in Olive in 2016. Now that is a dream team! Speaking of New Year’s... many of us are looking to incorporate changes in our lives and New Year’s seems to be the best me to start “best pracces”...hmmm...noce how we are not using the phrase “New Year’s resoluons?” Please check out the following recommenda- ons for a Happy 2016: Adopt a Pet—Adopt a pet and save a life. Be sure to check out the “Rescue Me” secon on pages 50 through 53 of this issue of Suncoast Pet, or visit your local shelter or rescues. Also check online at two great resources—Adopt-a-Pet.com and Peinder. com. If adopon is something you cannot do right now, please consider fostering and make a life-saving difference for a homeless pet. Regular Veterinarian Check Ups—Healthy pets are happy pets! Visit your vet at least once a year for your pets’ annual health check-up. And please contact your veterinarian or one of the local veterinary emergency clinics in our community with any of your pets’ emer- gencies. Maintain or Implement a Healthy Diet—This is a great me to research and check the nutrional quality of your pet’s food and how much you feed him or her; be careful not to overfeed or underfeed. Check with your veterinarian, and be sure to discuss the specific dietary needs for your pets. Exercise—Trying out a fun new acvity with your pet is not only a great way to bond with your pet, but you both are also benefing from “geng physical” together! Can’t you just feel those extra pounds drop off?! Basic Grooming—Please keep in mind...this is coming from a Diva! Fur all glossy clean, brushed, shampooed and smelling oh-so-divalicious, teeth and ears bright and clean, trimmed nails...hmmmm looking, smelling and feeling good! Training—Whoever said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks obviously never met a good trainer! If your dog needs a lile behavioral work or basic obedi- ence, you might want to consider invesng in training. Love—Most importantly and above all, remember to love your pets, because they love you uncondionally. Make 2016 the year that your “best pracces” are meaningful and keep you and your beloved pet happy and healthy.
