Dear ALPFA Familia,

Each year when we gather at our Convention, it feels like a family reunion. Students,business leaders, corporate partners, and members of our community all gather around tocelebrate ALPFA’s numerous accomplishments.

ALPFA continues transforming and evolving the way it operates, improving our ability toserve ALPFA’s increasing membership base. Our staff and volunteers continue to meetthe challenges of our field and to excel despite setbacks. We should all be very proud of

where we are today and excited about where we are headed. As Americans and leaders, we are supporting theeconomic growth of our nation and ALPFA is very much part of it!

Allow me to give you a brief update on where we are today. Our 72,000-member-strong organization never ceasesto reach new heights. The past twelve months witnessed the founding of a new professional chapter in PuertoRico; the founding of ALPFA Solutions, which offers a sophisticated suite of leadership development programs forour members; new partnerships with Girl Scouts and Fortune Magazine; a new technology platform to enhancemembership; and the launch of a new chapter model in select cities… to name but a few!

This year’s Convention theme, “Latinos Driving Growth in the U.S. Economy,” focuses on the critical successneeded in our country. A Morgan Stanley research report finds that the aging of the population and the rise ofMillennials will continue to impact the consumer landscape over the next five years. The share of consumer walletscontrolled by the Hispanic population, however, will experience the fastest pace of growth, driven by the additionof 8.2 million individuals—or 52% of total U.S. population growth—and above-average per capita income growth.

Latinos’ purchasing power has been growing 70% faster than Americans’ as a whole since the late 1980s,according to the 2013 Multicultural Report from the Selig Center for Economic Growth at the University of Georgia.Additionally, Latinos are driving new-business creation in the U.S. According to a study by the Stanford LatinoEntrepreneurship Initiative, from 2007-12 Latino-owned net new-business formation increased 47% whilenon-Latino net new businesses declined by 2%. New businesses mean new jobs. As the largest Latino professionalassociation in the country, ALPFA’s mission is becoming increasingly relevant to the future of our nation. Let’s makesure we take time this convention to celebrate all we have created together that continues to make history andpave the way for future generations to come.

In addition to this important theme, we have in store an amazing variety of events, including: the Women of ALPFAday with power breakfast and riveting panels; a new Chief Marketing Officers panel; various luncheons headlinedby key Latino leaders; CEO speakers; a Havana Night White Night party; our always-exciting gala, during whichwe will raffle off a brand new Mercedes Benz vehicle; and, of course, our Career Fair, with dozens of top companieslooking to match with top talent.

I would like to thank each of you for attending this year’s convention and bringing your expertise and enthusiasmto our gathering. As leaders you have the vision, knowledge, resources, and experience to help create the blueprintof success for our nation. You truly are our greatest asset today and tomorrow, and we could not accomplish whatwe do without your support and leadership. Throughout this conference, I ask you to stay engaged, cherish yoursurroundings, and enjoy an amazing network you have built throughout this wonderful organization. After all, weare in this together! Shaping the future of ALPFA for America!

Dear attendees;

I am delighted to be here at Grapevine after another exciting year of growth and transfor-mation, and want to personally welcome you to the 44th ALPFA National Convention.

These are thrilling times for ALPFA, and we continue to evolve as we are confronted withconstant political, and economic challenges around us. Today, the work that we doempowering and developing Latino men and women into leaders of character for the nationis more relevant than ever, and most importantly, necessary.

This year’s convention theme, “Latinos Driving Growth in the U.S. Economy” was derived with the intention to makeus come to the realization that “Latino” is not a “segment” anymore.

Latinos are the New Mainstream, and as such, it is our responsibility to provide upcoming Latino and Latina leaderswith the necessary skills that will position them to become a critical economic opportunity for this country.

So, I am excited to announce a new cloud-based mentoring exchange and learning center that will connectmentors and mentees around the country, and will also provide a leadership certification platform for members.

We also recognize that the future of our organization is in building a pipeline of new members and future leaders,so we hired a new President for Colleges and Universities, with the sole responsibility to grow our student chaptersacross the country.

We are excited about what lies ahead for ALPFA and thank you for being a part of the journey.

And as always, I encourage each and every one of you to say hello, introduce yourselves, and share your ideasfor ALPFA, as well as your stories about ALPFA’s impact in your life.

Why Latino Workers are the Lifeblood of America’s Economic Future3:30PM – 5:00PM • Limited Capacity Monday, August 8, 2016

This panel presentation is an opportunity to examine and outline strategies to help mitigate against, whatwe at ALPFA believe to be, a demographic tsunami that threatens our nation. The panel will have theopportunity to contrast the perfect storm being experienced by America (e.g., over 3.7 million retiringBaby Boomers a year, rising longevity, and falling fertility), with the diversity explosion that leads us tothe conclusion that Latinos are the solution to America’s looming economic crisis. Following facts validatethis conclusion:

40% of employment growth over the next five years will come from Latinos;

From 2020 to 2032, Latinos will drive 75% of employment growth; and

The Latino labor force will grow 2.6% each year for the next 20 years, while growth in thenon-Latino working age population will be nearly flat

Looming threats. Big bets. Emerging trends. How leaders manage risk in avolatile world5:15PM – 6:45PM • CEO Panel Session (Open To All Convention Attendees)Monday, August 8, 2016

To succeed in today’s world, leaders have to welcome and embrace uncertainty. High-stakes uncertainty cantake many forms. It can be a new technology that is changing the business model of a mature business, anunpredictable geo-political landscape, or a crisis around the corner.

For the prepared organization, uncertainty can provide an opportunity to distinguish itself from its com-petitors. For individual leaders–it can make or break their careers.

Our panel of CEOs will share how they innovate to get ahead of disruption, prepare for a once in a lifetimecrisis that nobody saw coming, and use uncertainty to their advantage.

Mike Kearney, Deloitte’s Strategic Risk Managing Partner, will facilitate a conversation with CEOs whoare very familiar with what it takes to lead confidently in a volatile world.
