Dear Parents and Carers
I hope you have had a relaxing half term break.
At the end of the half term we said goodbye and thank you to Miss Corrin for her contribution to the care and development of our Reception children. This half term we welcome Mrs Whelan, back from her maternity leave.
Following the tragic events in Manchester and London, our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those affected. We pray for peace, tolerance and understanding in the world we live in.

Thank you for your continued support.

2016-17 Spring Half Term 1
Inspire Support Challenge Faith
Slow Down for Bobby Assembly
Author Jude Lennon visited school to give part 2 of the
around to see the children as they sat in a circle.
The favourite visitor was the snake; Leo even
wanted to give him a kiss!
Formby Beach
On Friday 5th May Year 5 went to Formby to complete a
beach study as part of
their topic on coastal
features and the
coastal economy. The
reward for their
preparation was a
beautiful day which meant we completed their learning
objectives and had a great time.
Quiz Semi-Final
On Tuesday 9th May the school
quiz team went to Leeds
Grammar School to participate in
the National Quiz Club General
Knowledge Semi-finals.
They scored an impressive 1300
points but not quite enough to
make it to the finals. Well done
to Ed, Adi, Adi and Erin.
CAFOD Visit
CAFOD came to school on
May 22nd, to highlight the Pope’s message of Laudato Si
in cherishing and
protecting the world we
live in.
The junior children took
part in an assembly and
there were workshops
for Y5 and 6.
Princes Road Synagogue Trip
As part of ‘Other Faith Week’ Year 3 and 4 visited Princes Road Synagogue, the first Grade 1 listed Synagogue outside of London.
The children were amazed by the ornate beauty of the synagogue, and learned lots of interesting facts about Judaism as
the guide showed them around. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the visit!
Johnny's Gecko Johnny in Y3 brought Lizzy the Leopard Gecko in to say hello. Johhny talked to the class about Leopard Geckos and about how to look after Lizzy and then gave everybody the chance to see her up close.
West Derby Learning Network Mass
On Thursday May 18th, members of our School Council from Y1 upwards made us so proud when
they represented the school at a Mass for local schools in the chapel at St. Vincent's School.
All schools were asked to represent a letter of the hymn Immaculate Mary, and Runnymede was asked to create the letter I. It had to be suitable for braille pupils to be able to read, so the children chose to use lolly sticks to create their letter.
‘Cycle Italy - Conquer the Alps’
Miss Robinson’s
partner James is undertaking a gruelling challenge in
September, when he will ride up 3 Italian Alps to raise
money for Parkinson’s UK.
Miss Robinson’s stepfather Alan has suffered from
Parkinson's for 18
years. This disease
is debilitating and
degenerative and
has a profoundly
negative effect on
his quality of life. Alan underwent
pioneering deep brain stimulation surgery in 2015, which has had a positive impact
on his quality of life.
It is only through fundraising efforts that the necessary research can take place that
leads to the development of these techniques. If you would like to donate, please
visit:: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/James-Haw2 Many thanks.
FIFA tournament
The Cathedral Association and Runnymede
PSA staged a FIFA 2017 Tournament at
Runnymede, which raised £273. The final
match was played on big screen in the hall
with all the children watching. After a tense
penalty shoot out the winner was XXXXXXXX.
Paul Manning and Jack Quilty won the fidget
spinner competition, Mrs Hussin and Alex
Hennessy won the spot-the-ball competition,
XXXXX won the ‘guess the umber of sweeties in the jar’ competition, big thanks
to Eddie for being the goalie for everyone to try and beat!
PSA Your generosity and support has led to the planning, approval and purchasing of an outdoor structure for our children to learn and play in.
The gazebo includes a chalkboard and flooring and will be erected at the start of July, meaning our lovely Year 6s may be able to benefit before they leave us for secondary school.
Thank you parents for supporting this project, which has hit several bumps regarding tree stumps and conservation along the way. We hope the children love learning in an outdoor environment and that it brings them lots of joy and happy memories.
Uniform Shop We have raised over £200 so far! We have plenty of uniform in stock,
contact the office if you need any items. All donations of preloved uniform are gratefully accepted.
PSA Leadership changes This year we bid a fond farewell to our residing Chair, Sue
Edwards and Vice Chair, Andrea Casey. New leadership will be appointed and role descriptors shared shortly, if you would like to be involved please get in touch. Both Sue and Andrea have given their own time for many years and led the PSA to its current position. We are hugely grateful for their outstanding contribution and on behalf of the school, PSA and each child they have helped - thank you.
Financial Current funds raised this school year so far £6000. These funds were raised
through the various activities including the Family Bingo, Christmas Disco, Santa Dash, Christmas Fair, Junior Film Night and Spring Ball. We also had excellent news from Barclay Bank that they would donate £1000 to match the income taken from the games tables, raffle and auction on the night of the Spring Ball. We have also purchased a BBQ for school use, made a contribution the Year 6 leavers party and purchased the prizes for the Easter Bonnet competition and Easter Chocolates for all the children in school. All in all a fab year and a big thanks to you all for your support not just at these events but throughout the year. Total funds currently held in bank is £12400. Cost of Gazebo and fitting circa £7500. Additional investments are also being made into both playgrounds as we look to construct play spaces including climbing frames and activity areas.
So as you can see – all your help and support really does make a difference. We cannot do it without YOU!
If anyone has any spare time to help out at PSA events we would be eternally grateful. To be a member of the PSA you don’t have to go to meetings or even help at every event—just dipping in and out to help is massively appreciated. WE NEED YOU!!
Thank you
