Here are the 3 main stances we use: Zenkutsu-Dachi (front stance) Front leg is bent, back leg is straight. Feet are flat on the floor and your own shoul- der width apart. Make sure your back foot points forward as much as possible, your hips are straight and centre of gravity is between both feet. Front knee is directly above front foot Kokutsu-Dachi (rear stance) Heels are in line, back leg is bent, back foot points 90© to side, front foot points straight forward. Front leg is slightly bent, so that your centre of gravity is closer to your back leg. 70% weight on back leg, 30% on front. Hips are at an angle. Do not let back knee “fall in “”(push it back) Kiba-Dachi (horse stance) Heels on one line, feet are parallel and double your own shoulder width apart. Push your knees out, do not let them “fall inward”. Feet are flat on the floor.Your cen- tre of gravity is the middle of your stance—equal weight on both legs. Looking back on 2014, JION had a very busy & successful year. We started our new Meth- ven Group, hosted our first Gasshuku, entered 8 competitions in addition to our own Dojo Champs winning 147 medals in total (dojo champs not included). We would like to thank everyone who has supported us throughout the year, donating food & drink for our events, goodies for the Christmas treat, trophies & medals, and even a complete set competition mats. A very big thank you also to all our parents who, in the last week of training, presented us with a JION Dojo Banner, something we have wanted for a long time :-) A dojo cannot survive without parental and senior student support and JION Karate Dojo can boast a fantastic team, so thank you to all our students and parents for your continued support. In 2014, all members had 76 regular x60min training sessions and a further 12 holiday ses- sions x90min in addition to extra events such as training seminars, grading, KKNZ, competition practice sessions + Xmas party. We begin Term 1 with our Dojo Sleepover 31 Jan-01 Feb with swim/training/movie etc. Competition season will soon begin + for those interested, there will be several regional & national karate tournaments in 2015, starting in March, see notice board &/or web site for info.
