In the last 3 years I worked as a graphic designer for a creative studio in Lisbon. Working in projects involving branding and visual identities, editorial and web design. I’m always eager to learn and explore when embracing new projects. Developing concepts and ideas it’s what I really love to do. Turning ideas into messages, sometimes hidden, subtle, other times screaming and showing themselves in a very obvious way. At the studio I also got experience in wire-framing websites, newsletters and also html code while working in partnership with a colleague developer. In the meanwhile I have also been working as a freelancer for small companies and collaborating in some pro bono projects.I see myself as a highly motivated and enthusiastic person. I am curious and like to take risks. I believe communication is the key for good relations, so I always try to make sure I understand others and others understand me. I am very practical and organized because time is precious, and I am used to work under stressful situations. I like team work, I believe in sharing ideas and know-how to make things happen faster while getting the opportunity to learn other expertise, or just to see things from different points of view. Willing to relocate and start working right away.

CULTIVAMOS CULTURA is a cultural association located in the municipality of Beja and presents itself as a platform for experimentation and development of theoretical and practical knowledge in the areas of science, technology and contemporary art. Cultivar (cultivate) involves preparation and dedication to the development of a culture and in this association, Culture arises in many different ways. Therefore, we have decided to use some punctuation characters in order to take advantage of their rule in the grammar and their graphic aesthetic to develop a visual identity that grows Culture / Arts / Science / Education / Technology / Innovation, among other crops. The use of the bar also relates to the important world of web, where a “/” indicates a path to a new end.

They can be abandoned and mistreated, can be loved and well maintained, can be known or strangers and their image is retained in a click at the very right moment. The image is deconstructed in lines and curves and more lines and more curves to be rebuilt again, under a new vision, and immortalized in the streets, alone or with some (un)known landscapes for background. They are witnesses of a past that we want (or not) to be revisited and messengers of a future that we want to be right now. Matilha [pack] is a project that intends to provoke an awareness and changing attitudes about how “man’s best friends” are treated.

The idea behind the GRAAL2015’s symbol, from it’s shape to it’s color, was based on different influences and versions of the Graal. Celtic nuts and their symbolism, the chalices and books... The Grail’s importance is the message it tries to transmit. Thus, through these influences, this symbol can be applied in any direction and allows the creation of patterns. The symbol is intended to simple and clear, as the messages the Graal is supposed to deliver.

Pitch for conference event. The idea behind this identity was to bring together the various forms of Graal, according to all the myths and legends of the graal. The use of the main logo is complemented with the symbol that allow us to create multiple patterns and shapes in order to design all the promotion materials.

Naturarte is a rural tourism where a major goal is the integration of Art in Nature. It consists of two sites 6 km apart: naturarte-campo and naturarte-rio. The sites are quite different not only in composition but in the surrounding geography. It is intended that guests feel at home, relax and adhere to a series of events and activities that this tourism has to offer every week. In addition to using the website, in Naturarte it’s possible to find a number of leaflets that let the guest know not only the estate but also what they can do in the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vincentina.

SUL SOL was the culmination of one year of activities at Cultivamos Cultura. This exhibition displays to the public the output of artistic residencies developed in the previous months, together with a group of artworks selected from two of the most significant international collections of experimental art. The aim was the creation of a program targeting new new media in visual arts, challenging the selected artists to develop a residency where they explored the interaction with the local community and the natural environment.

The identity brings the colors of the South and the Sun, while the use of diferent tipografies make us travel between what is more artistic or scientific. The truth is that, in this exhibition art and science live together.

BIENNALE.PYEva e Franco Mates

The virus is made public and spread from the Slovenian Pavilion on the opening day of the exhibition, June the 6th 2001. Biennale.py becomes headline-hitting news, suddenly turning into an unprecedented performance, a controversial work of art revealing how media hysteria can be theoretically provoked and raised. COMMUNITYTerike Haapoja

EN As we die, the difference between us and our surroundings vanish. We give away the energy needed for sustaining life, we lose the coherent form of our body, and finally, we become dust. We see this happening to others, but never to ourselves: death is always for someone else. In each video is shown the cooling down of an animal’s body after its death, recorded by a heat-sensitive infrared camera.

BLEU REMIX Yann Marussich

EN In his spectacle-instalation Bleu remix,Yann Marussich returns to the theme already explored in 2001, in the Bleu Provisoire spectacle when he let a mysterious blue liquid ooze as blood would, through the layers of his skin, as though it was a final effect or a by-product of his body’s inner processes. This way, Marussich opened the paths between the inside and the outside world – secret passages from the unconscious, straight to the conscious.

WAVESDaniel Palacios

EN A long piece of rope represents three dimensionally a series of waves floating in space, as well as producing sounds from the physical action of their movement: the rope which creates the volume also simultaneously creates the sound by cutting through the air, making up a single element. It therefore becomes a single element, which alters depending on how we behave when confronted by it, on our movements, in question: a steady, soundless line evolves into chaotic forms of irregular sounds.

WETNET Tagny Duff

EN WetNet explores the relationship between contamination, bioremediation and sustainable systems. This work in progress features the creation of “contaminated” wet sculptures in the form of disposable science equipment. Here the sculptures are modelled after the sterilized plastic flasks commonly found in the laboratory and used to conduct experiments. The interaction between the mycelium and viral cells generate a transpecies network extending both inside and out of the flasks.

ETHOLOGY I Maria Manuela Lopes

EN The Ethology project has as its essence a developing collaboration between an artist, a community of researchers in the biological sciences among others (Bio-Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Anthropology), and the public. The (material/physical) body and the (surrounding/ethereal) space, as part of the same order, live in a perplexing symbiosis. Not only do we (our body) cause it to change, but it (space) also causes a change in us as well.

EVERY ICON John F. Simon

EN Can a machine produce every possible image? What are the limits of this kind of automation? Is it possible to practice image making by exploring all of image-space using a computer rather than by recording from the world around us? What does it mean that one may discover visual imagery so detached from “nature”? Every Icon is a provoking work of computer-based conceptual art that over time will fill up and recognizable shapes. IP POETRY Gustavo Romano

EN In IP Poetry several automats connected to the Internet do real-time searches in certain websites, and, departing from a few phrases or keywords, start reciting the poems configured in their syntactic programming. As new text appears on a daily basis on the web, the poems recited maintain their structure, but the varying search results ensure a poem is never recited in the same way twice. Collection MEIAC

INSTRUMENTATION Peter Flemming

EN Instrumentation evolved from a series of studio experiments inspired by the basic physical ‘magic’ of resonance as it reveals itself in our structures, systems and machines. In this installation, the surface of a large work-table serves as an acoustic transducer for several electromagnetically activated piano wires, and as the main staging area for an ensemble of machine performers.

JUST NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE Chris Salter

EN Just Noticeable Difference (JND) is a sensory environment for one person at a time lying in total darkness. During a set time period, visitors experience an extraordinarily wide range of visual, auditory and tactile sensations that challenge how we perceive the smallest degrees of change in sensory stimuli over different levels of intensities. An installation by Chris Salter, in collaboration with Marije Baalman and Harry Smoak.

This environment is distributed in several playable points of view over the space of the virtual city which people can activate and navigate executing movements in front of the projection.

LATROMike Thompson

EN As advances in nanotechnology lead to increasingly energy efficient products, plant life such as algae will become attractive sources for tapping energy. Latro is a speculative design concept responding to this potential future market. Latro (latin for thief) incorporates the natural energy potential of algae and the functionality of a hanging lamp into its design. Synthesising both nature and technology in one form, Latro is a living, breathing product.

EN The rotten machine is a surprising exhibition that emanates from an old laptop from 1999, owned by the uruguayan netartist Brian Mackern, to recreate the time when net.art had its peak brightness, and perhaps therefore, the rattle before the emergence of Web 2.0 (known as Social Network). A computer full of information and history, acquired by the MEIAC, that accompanied Brian Mackern between 1999 and 2004, apart from his work as a VJ, conferences and workshops. In short, his tool. MAGNETOPLANKTONArcangel Constantini

EN The artificial plankton called magnetoplankton, a term derived from the (Latin magnes,-ETIS, magnet) and plankton (Greek πλαγκτός, Planktos, “wandering”), a Lab specimen that inhabits crystal tanks, with water samples and live plankton. The hypothesis of this artistic experiment, raises the idea that life, structured in the environment of the water molecule, perceive oscillations of the subtle energies that affects its surface tension, causes oscillations generating links with other elements spins.

TRAINJohn Klima

Controlled via cell phones, viewers guide the trains around the track, picking up passengers along the way. The passengers are familiar characters from well known films. When two or more characters are on board, they begin to have a dynamically generated conversation, overheard on the cell phone. A cinematic narrative in miniature. Collection MEIAC

SOCIAL AIRBAGS Roman Kirschner

EN “Social airbags” are a series of blow-up sculptures with a narrative character. They are wrapped up in small bags when worn on the body and can be used in diverse social situations. Unlike airbags in cars they are not triggered automatically, but can be activated as the need arises. Depending on the situation, they serve as instantaneous body transformations, as extensions to specific conversations, as signals for interests and abilities, etc.

VOLTARShawn Brixey

EN Voltar is designed to clone fragments of ancient Northern Hemisphere glaciers that covered Europe 20,000 years ago during the last glacial maximum. Like freeze frames captured from an ancient time- lapse movie, Voltar’s, brilliantly colored ice crystals comment on the impact on the issue of global climate change by creating a kind of poetic time machine constructed entirely of fragile moments from Earth’s prehistoric past.

Exposição de Arte Contemporânea Experimental

Um projeto comissariado por Marta de Menezes

www.emergencias2012.net

EN To understand and enjoy the artistic scene of today and also the technical conditions and technologies that favour or condition the experimentation of certain aesthetic materialization solutions for nowadays contemporary artworks, it is necessary to experience the new research being made in the area of New Media.

To achieve this, the exhibition “Emergências2012” is based on a choice of artists and works centered in a dichotomy of media: real and virtual. Within the real media we find the Biological (live), the Physical (phenomena and material) and the Chemical (substances and transformations). In the virtual media we find the social networks and all within the digital world.

It was therefore sought to find a series of exemplary projects to demonstrate the use of the referred New Media in a way to show the viewers and public an extremely interesting sample and contact with a more experimental character of artistic creation today.

EMERGÊNCIAS 2012 was an experimental art exhibition that used science and technology to develop new media for artistic expression. The visual identity created for this exhibition aims to simulate in a symbolic way the repositioning of the viewer towards the artistic object. The Brand consists in a sequence of layers in order to arouse the curiosity and interest of the viewer in its reading and interpretation. The graphics emerge and require an adjustment of vision to decipher the message. In an ‘invisible’ layer (emerging in the darkness) lurk the 9 elements that unify the exposition and it’s artistic works.

EMERGÊNCIAS2012

This Interactive platform creates a different Icon every minute according to some variables, like the amount of people and their position. All the generated icons got stored into a data base and for each one of them, a code was released, enabling the public to download their personal Icon and print it as a small souvenir.
