MARCH 1, 2015
Welcome! We are glad you’re here! We invite you to seek out the folks wearing the “Ask Me” badge. Through them you will find information about the ministries of Salem Heights Church and how to become involved. Please fill out a Visitor Card and drop it in one of the offering boxes as you leave or scan this code to go directly to our website and fill out a visitor card. We have an excellent nursery and programs for children newborn through high school. Any of the ushers will be happy to direct you to the proper classroom. If you feel more comfortable having your infant with you during the service, the last row in the Auditorium will be reserved for parents with small children. There is a private room for nursing mothers across the hall from the Auditorium with a rocking chair, changing table and portable crib. For your convenience, it also includes a monitor to enable you to still hear and view the service.
Our Purpose...
To reach people with the love of Jesus Christ, provide a safe and
supportive environment, proclaim the standards of God’s truth,
duplicate the Christian life in others, and celebrate the majesty
and works of Our Great God.

Giving Update
THE MINISTRY OF SALEM HEIGHTS CHURCH The ministry of Salem Heights Church is funded entirely by the generous giving of God’s people. You will notice that we do not pass the offering plate; however, there are offering boxes in the back of the auditorium. We have done this so no one gives out of compulsion. We believe from the Word of God that the Spirit of God will lead people towards giving back to God of their first fruits. “...God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Cor. 9:7) and we know He blesses those who take His Word seriously in every regard. Thank you for prayerfully supporting Salem Heights financially as we desire to reach the lost and disciple the Saints.

LUKE Part 17
Luke 4:1-13
“Temptation!”
Presented by
Pastor Justin Greene
March 1, 2015
According to tradition, the scene of our Lord’s
temptation was a mountain to the south of Jericho. It
was a long, tiring ascent up the mountain, and with
every step upward, the Jordan Valley looked more and
more terrible. Even at the top, the climber is still two
hundred feet below sea level. The mountain is “naked
and arid like a mountain of malediction, rising
precipitously from a scorched and desert plain, and
looking over the sluggish, bituminous waters of the
Sodomite sea.”1 The whole scene was a wilderness, a
fitting state upon which to enact this great drama. The
waste and desolate places of the earth are the legacy
of fallen man. The wastes and wilderness of the world
simply echo the desolation that sin has wrought in the
human heart.
So the stage was set. Two men, in the history of the
world, have been exposed to a fierce, face-to-face
encounter with the Prince of Darkness. The
circumstances, however, were poles apart. Adam met
his temptation in paradise, a garden planted by God,
a place of pristine beauty and one subservient to his
will. Jesus Christ, the Last Adam, met his temptation on
the desolate hillside.
In each case, there was a perfect man. In the first
instance, a man created by God; in the second, a man
conceived by God. The first Adam surveyed a scene
where all was beauty and bliss; the Last Adam looked
upon a scene of barrenness and blight, where hunger
and danger stalked.
Mark tells us that Jesus was “with the wild beasts,” for
the lion and the jackal lurked there. They came to pay
homage to their Maker, to acknowledge the second
man, in all His perfection, and to lie at His feet as tame
as lambs.
Alone, except from these wild companions, with no
food to eat, with no agenda to fulfill except to be
where God wanted Him to be, the Lord and Creator of
the Universe, tabernacling now in human flesh, felt the
progressive pains and pangs of starvation. He was
alone with a ruined world, with wild animals, with His
memorized Bible, and with God. Such was the setting
for the temptation of the man, Christ Jesus.2
A NOTE ON THE GENEALOGY
• This is probably the genealogy of Mary.
• Great names keep us grounded.
• Jesus is the second Adam (Romans 5:12, 18).
TRIED AND TEMPTED
• Temptation meets us in a Particular Place.
 Physical State: Deprived and Dirty
 Personal State: Lost and Lonely
Mental State: In Anguish and Abandoned
• Temptation Makes a Presentation.
 Desire of Flesh
 Desire of Eyes
 Boastful Pride of Life
• Temptation has an Antidote Potion.
“It is Written.”
The Word,
will lead you to worship
and enable you to wait!
