The Pokes wrapped up their road schedule with their trip to the Dakotas last weekend and wrap up the regular season with a pair of home duals. Looking Back The Cowboys dropped a 22-15 decision to South Dakota State last Friday Evening in Frost Arena in Brookings, S.D. The Pokes were dealt a blow early in the dual with an injury default at 125 pounds and lost three matches by one point with two of those wins for SDSU coming on riding me. A technical fall win by sophomore Kyle Pope to open the dual propelled the Cowboy wrestlers past North Dakota State 27-13 last Sunday aſternoon in Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse in Fargo, N.D in the Cowboys’ final road dual of the season. The Pokes won three of the first four matches of the dual and finished by winning the final three bouts on their way to the win. Pope earned his second-straight technical fall and third-straight technical fall by a Cowboy at 165 pounds in an 18-1 win over Grant Nehring to open the dual. In his 2:13 of acon, Pope recorded three four-point near falls on his way to the win. Sophomore Chaz Polson closed out the dual with SDSU with his eighth technical fall of the season defeang Logan Peterson 16-0 in 2:55. Polson recorded four four- point nearfalls in the match as the 165 pounders swept the weekend for the Pokes. The Bison took the match at 125 by forfeit on Sunday and 133 pounds by decision in sudden victory to trim the Cowboy lead to 14-13. Sophomore Bryce Meredith responded with an 11-3 major decision win over Mitch Bengston at 141 pounds. It was the sixth me this season he has recorded bonus points in a dual. He recorded a takedown with two seconds leſt to get the extra team point to make the dual 18-13. It also marked the 20th win of the season for Meredith, as he moved to 20-3 on the season. Aſter bonus points from Meredith, junior Cole Mendenhall recorded a pin at 1:20 over Clay Ream. A quick takedown in the match resulted in strategic pin by Mendenhall for his fiſth fall of the season. His pin gave UW a 24-13 lead and locked up the win for the Pokes. Junior Archie Colgan finished the dual with a 9-4 decision over Kyle Gilva. Colgan scored five points in the final period with a pair of takedowns and escape on his way to the victory. Meredith Gets to 20 Sophomore Bryce Meredith is having a solid season for the Cowboys. He reached the 20 win mark last Sunday at North Dakota State. He heads into the weekend with a 20-3 overalltoleadthePokes.Hehasbeenamainstayinthenationalrankingsallseasonat141pounds. He is 9-1 in duals this season for the Pokes with a team-high 37 dual points. Harms on Roll Senior Tanner Harms has been on a roll all season for the Pokes. He heads into the weekendwitha15-3recordafterapairofwinslastweekendatSouthDakotaStateandNorth Dakota State. He has won four-straight matches and 10 of his last 11 matches. He is 7-3 in duals this season with all three losses coming to ranked wrestlers. He is 7-1 this season against members of the Big 12. During his four-match winning streak he has over 14minutesofridingtimewithtwoofthosewinsbeingmajordecisionshutoutvictories.
Finish Strong at Home The Cowboys closed out their road schedule last weekend at South Dakota State and North Dakota State. He earned a win over Logan Paxton of NDSU by decision last Sunday.
Mendenhall Picks up Fall Victory Junior Cole MendenhallpickeduphisfifthpinoftheseasonlastSundayagainstNorth Dakota State to help seal the UW victory. He moved to 13-7 on the season and with that win he now has 50 in his career with the Cowboys.
Foster Looking Strong True Freshman Drake FostercontinuestowrestlesolidforthePokes.Hewent1-1last weekend to improve his record to 24-6. He is 3-2 on the season in duals and has recorded 13 dual points on the year. He is now 4-2 on the season against members of the Big 12 Conference. He is second on the team in pins this season with nine.
Jensen Battles Back AfteratoughlossatSouthDakotastateseniorJace Jensen earned a big 2-0 decision over Blake Thompson of North Dakota State on Sunday. Jensen has won two of his last three matches since moving back to 174 pounds. He recorded an escape and added a point onridingtimeinthedualinhiswinoverThompson.

New Conference The University of Wyoming wrestling program will have a new home beginning next season as the Big 12 Conferenceannouncedtheadditionofsixaffiliatememberstotheleague.TheBig 12 will now feature 10 teams as the four current members of the conference in Iowa State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and West Virginia will be joined by the Cowboys, Air Force, Northern Colorado, North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Utah Valley. Theaffiliatememberadditionsareeffectivebeginningwiththe2015-16academicyear.Affiliatememberswillcompete for the conference’s postseason championshipandtheleague’sautomaticqualificationtoNCAApostseasoncompetition. NCAA Coaches’ Panel Rankings The NCAA released its first coaches’ panel rankings for the 2015-16 wrestlingseason on Jan. 21. Four Pokes are featured on the list that is one of the tools used to determinethequalifiersforthe2016NCAADivisionIWrestlingChampionshiphostedatMadison Square Garden in New York City on March 17-19. Sophomore Bryce Meredith is the highest ranked Cowboy coming in at 12th at 141 pounds. JuniorDrewTempleman,who is in his first season at 125pounds ranks 16th.SeniorTannerHarms,areturningNCAAqualifierranks19thatheavyweight.SophomoreArchie Colgan rounds out the Cowboys in the ranking coming in ranked 29th at 157 pounds. Wrestlers in each weight class are measured by winning percentage, ratingpercentage index (RPI) and coaches’ rankings to earn spots in their qualifying tournaments for the 2016 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. The coaches’ rankings are compiled by a vote of coaches representing each qualifying tournament.
